More true debate. Get rid of this getting the debate questions before you have the debate. If you can't think on your feet and come up with a good answer than you shouldn't be running the government.

Just a few ideas.

To expand a bit... 12 years of service for both branches of Congress.

2 terms as Senate or 6 terms in Congress.

Make 12 years of service in Congress a HARD cap.

For instance, Rep. X serves 3 terms in the House and 1 term in Senate.

Can you imagine how much pork would be stripped out of the budget if Congressmen and Senators knew it would be pointless for them to try to get it?

1. resize congress, 1 rep per 100k people, greatly solves jerrymadering issues
2. scrap current income tax, replace it with a flat tax or retail sales tax.
3. Push all spending that cannot be supported by the constitution to the states.

that is a start...

  on those two. The other one we're not ready for.

With Technology we have today there is no reason why Representation could not be expanded beyond the physical walls.

We are ready for all of them. We should be able to file our income taxes on 3x5 notecard...

The rich would never go for it, they'd have to shell out so much money they would go into shock.

Remove the deductions and watch the economy go into instant massive depresssion.

Do you honestly belive the rich would buy a massive SUV at full price rather than the huge deduction they get now???

Ban Diebold Voting machines in all states. We need a more transparent voting system. Don't let judges decide election outcomes.

Only go to war with nations as a last resort.

Continue to reduce American dependency on oil.

Cut spending money on weapons we end up selling to our enemies.

Make the rich pay the same percentage of their income in tax as the poor and middle class. Why shouldn't those who benefit the most from our system?

Revert back to the Clean Air Act from this Orwellian "Clear Skies Initiative".

Stop giving corporations so much of a break because you're afraid it'll hurt the economy. Us consumers affect the economy just as much if not more.

Pay those of us in the military more!
I heard a story about how little members of the military (in lower ranks) get paid. I don't know how they can get by with a family.
We get paid a lot more if we have dependants.

BUT, we need to stop spending 1 billion dollars on a Ticonderoga Class Cruiser.
We also need to stop paying contractors 50 bucks an hour to tell us how we did something wrong.

I should probably stop ranting before I go missing.

You have a point when my lil brother got out of the navy he went to work for Northrup Grumman (subdivision thereof that I can't remember) and that's exactly what he does. They fly him around the world to go on the ships and "install" software when all he really does is tell the sailors how to do it.

Yeah its unreal how much these contractors make for doing so little...and don't let them tell you that they do the work....they tell us to do it...and from my experience they are most often wrong when it comes to troubleshooting equipment.

well you don't have to worry about my brother's office, NG just pulled the funding out from under them. he's likely losing his job. but the saved money won't go to you guys, sadly enough, it'll be poured into some other pet project... (perhaps another Ticonderoga)

/sarcasm off

My suggestions for better government:

1) Allow political candidates to voluntarily run for one term only. I am opposed to government-mandated term limits, but would support voluntary ones. If the candidate wins, they cannot be on the ballot again for the same position. They could, however, win on a write-in basis.

2) Performance audits. Before the government decides we need to raise taxes again, let's make sure it spends the money it has well. Tie state auditors budgets to a base+commission structure. 5% of savings identified goes into the auditor's future budget for automate staff expansion. Also, this meters the auditors budget once the fat is cut.

I had this great new idea, why dont you make a plan that would work better than the government we have here?

Why try to fix something that is broken and can never be fixed? Here is my plan: get rid of the whole thing.

I don't want to marry a man...where did that come from? I can't honestly say that it disturbs me if gays are allowed to marry though.

The current administration seems content to cut taxes and increase spending...that certainly can't go on forever.

The United States Government and its laws have endured for over 200 years as a testament to the world that a free people can govern themselves and choose their destiny. We have made mistakes (we are only human) but through Amendments to the Constitution and Bill of Rights we have sought to correct these mistakes. Being imperfect, we will discover or make new mistakes and correct them as this is a never ending process.
Let us remember WE THE PEOPLE are the government. If we have lost control it is because we have relinquished it and not that it was taken from us. What has changed in the laws that prevent us from electing the government we want to serve us? Today you get more information on a daily bases about who is doing what to who than any other time in history. It isn?t that hard to make an informed decision about your government (unless you keep your head in the sand). And if we make a mistake in that decision (again we are only human), we correct it and move on.
We need to put integrity back into our government (a lair is a lair is a lair). WE NEED TO BUY AMERICAN. We are the most sought after consumers in the world. Do you think anyone would risk ticking us off to the point where we would stop buying their goods and services? The problem is nothing seems to tick us off. We walk into Wally Mart looking for the best price and hang the American worker. Complaining about the governments debt is fine but decrease your own. Don?t ask the government to do what you can?t. Personal debt and savings affect the economy in many ways. You may not like it but oil (or the lack of) is probably one of the highest threats to our National Security. Most of our military and nation run off of oil and products made from it. Oil affects the lives of every single American. Are we in the Middle East because of Oil? Now that IS a stupid question.
The problems we have today transverse many administrations. We have given the jail house key to the inmates. It is time we took the key back.
