I'm in a food pantry and we get people in that are like "I love ramen, do you people have ramen you could give me?" and of course we give them the packets. But just for once I wish I could dine at a REAL ramen shop with a bowl full made by the very best. Noodles fried and packed into plastic with a flavor pouch just isn't the same.
I had no idea real ramen was a thing until like 10 years ago. Luckily I've managed to try a small number of the best shops in NYC and a top notch bowl of tonkotsu ramen is a thing of beauty. There are quite a few average or sub-par shops as well.
But a good bowl of ramen? it's probably the single most food I crave next to a burger or steak.
If you ever make it out to NYC the most hyped ramen shop is Ippudo, but it's also arguably the best. Then we have other good ones like Hide-Chan and Minca and Santouka and Ramen Lab. LA has a big ramen scene due to a large Japanese population as well.
