Tell me what is Obama's record as a war time president?

How did his 'leading from behind" work out for the people of Libya?
How about his leadership in Iraq?
Anyone think that we are winning in Afghanistan?

Uno
Who, 45 years ago today, was drafted into the US Army.

As a fellow draftee of that era, I do recall sitting in my hooch, listening to the often brought up subject of us being sent over there to swap our blood for the dollars in profit "the man" was making off of us. I also recall how strange it was that some things were given to us in obscene excess while other things that we really really needed was nowhere to be found. We all came to the conclusion that whatever created that weird situation was due to how much profit (or the lack of it) there was to be found in manufacturing and supplying said items.

It all came down to $$$$. Everything, and that includes the huge black market that pervaded the everyday life of everyone trying to survive the war there. Every way we looked at it, young and ignorant as we were, we came to the conclusion that there were no political, moral or patriotic reason that we could think of that could trump the power of greed and profit as to why we got yanked out of the lives we were living to "serve our country".

if the rest of the world really wants to punish North Korea for this, they should get all the porn sites in the world to sign an agreement to IP-block any connections coming from North Korea... we'll see how fast the military stages a coup when Redtube and Pornhub go dark.

Or redirect all their internet requests to pictures of suggestively dressed potatoes?

I'm just spit-balling here, but do you really think that North Korea allows anyone in their country access to outside Internet? One of the keys to any dictatorship is to completely control the entirety of the media. I'm guessing that "blocking North Korea" would only affect Kim Jong-un.

Joe Hwang farmer walking down the street doesn't have internet access, but I'm absolutely sure that high-level government and military officials (and their immediate families) probably do.

The only non military way to punish NK is through China or SK. NK has a tech park they share with SK, but the problem with urging SK to shut their border down or China to do similar is disproportionate pain on peons. likely the U.S. would need to trade favors with China to get China to punish NK, or threaten China with punishment for allowing themselves to be a launch pad of NK illegality.

I haven't come across anything by pundits about what they think Obama will really do. Possibly his most powerful statements were admonishment of Sony over folding. If we can end up seeing the movie anyway it is a meaningful f u to NK.

I have to say though, it interests me to no end how a dynastic dictatorship can reserve for itself all of the luxuries and excesses it tells its own people are the stuff of demonic capitalist debauchery and moral debasement. AND especially so, how the subjugated impoverished masses ruled by said dictator can blindly worship their leader for being just that way.

It sure takes a lot of control over the masses to have things being that way. Its why I, being a product of democracy (abused and corrupted as it is) despise having to be forced to live the life the North Koreans do.

I guess if they don't know any better, what harm can it be to them? Small wonder the dictatorship finds it imperative to lock out the rest of the world to keep what they have going for themselves.

The Chinese must be laughing their asses off as their own "ally" mires itself in the form of gov't the Chinese themselves suffered greatly under all while the Chinese have gone on and embraced capitalism as THE weapon of influence and domination.

You guys just have no respect for Kim Jong Un and the DPRK. Sony deserved this. There will be no "retaliation".

Whatever happened to our lead ambassador Dennis Rodman? Do you think he was involved?

The whole thing has gotten so blow out of proportion it's kinda pathetic IMHO.

SONY has been compromised for over a decade now.

You'd think they'd know better, but now it's a big show.

I just think it's stupid that people think our government should go and take action on behalf of a Japanese company.

Sony have already acquiesced to their demands, against Obama's advice. Why should we spend any more money and time, as a nation, just to help Sony recoup losses? Or "strike back", as if the US gov is in some alliance with Sony? Sony's stupid western born CEO was on air claiming he didn't give in. Right

Sony Pictures Entertainment (ie: the company that was hacked) is headquartered in the USA. presumably, that's where the hacked servers were.

They said the breach was done by a person physically getting access to a high level Sony employee.

I think it's far more likely an Agent in Japan somehow got access vs here in California. This person obviously had access to both US Sony entertainment data and the Japanese data. Why would a US Sony entertainment employee have access to Japanese medical records?

Because it wasn't a U.S. Sony employee. The original breach had to be a high level Japanese employee with full access.

He has already admitted he doesn't research his arguments

Anyway the hack is one thing, threatening violence on people for watching a movie is another. Glad most people including the the federal government don't have any time for cowardly thought police and won't excuse it.

Sony had to pull the film after it was the major theater chains that rolled over and played dead, not Sony.
If Sony has no theaters willing to release, then where is the income suppose to come from? Naturally Sony had to pull the film. After all, and especially with Sony being Sony, no one is going to see their film for free.
it just doesn't work that way.

Ask any film maker how difficult it is to get financing for a film.
Moses parting the Red Sea in the THE TEN COMMANDMENTS was the second miracle.
Obtaining the films financing was the real miracle.

Sony is not going to limit release to streaming media, nor drop free DVD's from air.
Sony can write it off a a loss as long as they never release the film.

What NK should have done instead of hacking, would have been to make and promote a film where Obama and the entire US congress are attacked by snakes on a plane, or all ran through a wood chippers.
Like the ending in the film FARGO, just wood chipper one by one every single elected official of the entire US government.
Sure, we might complain over such a film, as would NK complain about this Sony film.
But in the end, at least we'd have two pretty darn good films to enjoy come Christmas day.

What I wonder about and I have not heard anyone in the news media talking about, is if NK, or anyone for that matter, can hack into Sony so efficiently, then what risk is there to our national security?
Could they already have the ability to shut down our entire United States power gird? Infiltrate control of our nuclear arsenal? Steal every penny out of every US bank?
Shut down communication satellites? Force program Gay sex on every DirecTV TV channel?
Could they already have the ability to do all of this?
Are the hackers just waiting for the right time and right place when such a major hack attack would have the most effect?

That is what the conversation should be about.
If NK or anyone can do this damage, what else might they do that we have no protections from?
An hack attack that would really bring us to our knees?

I always had this fear that Seth Rogen would bring the end of civilization as we know it.
