<< For all of you that say they sound like crap, what are you listening to???? A $400 'top of the line' aiwa? Just curious.... >>
Nope, a $350 Denon AVR-1701 with a pair of DIY (Do it yourself) bookshelfs made with peerless 6 1/2" woofers and peerless soft dome tweeter, and a custom second-order crossover. Now, with that being said, yes they sound like crap, and yes, this is the setup hooked to my computer.
I agree with Kami, now that I've gone to reference-quality bookshelfs and a nice receiver (I use an optical out on my soundcard, so the DAC in my soundcard isn't even used) I could never go back to multimedia speakers, however, if I were to it would be with Boston Acoustics 4800's.
<< No but close to it... remember, I've heard both. If the Klipsch weren't better at 3x the price I'd be worried! Altecs are worth a lot more than they cost though. >>
The ACS56's (even less than the BA4800's) are probably the best value for the money on the market! I love those for multimedia speakers, and even if the Klipsch cost the same price as these (the new 4.1's are MORE than triple the cost) I would prefer the sound of the ACS56's myself.
<< Everyone seems to love the Klipsch speakers, but what about Altec Lansing? I've got a 3pc set from about 5yrs ago, ACS48, and these things rock >>
Going back to your original post, the ACS48's were not bad speakers, but I suggest you check out the ACS56's if you really like Altec's sound. They are a definite improvement over those, and you can pick them up for less than $100 and probably sell your 48's on ebay for a decent price!
