I'm Korean (not upper class but I guess upper middle class) and my parents were the opposite. They didn't hammer me on education neither and said we will support you no matter what you choose to do in life.

Heck, they didn't even give me toys to play with. All I ever had was a broken-down refridgerator, the body of a rusted-out Ford Pinto, and half of a playboy cover when I was growing up. All my friends had GI Joes and Nintendo.

Problem with my parents.

Ended up with my wife being polite and everyone finally accepting the status quo.
She did force them to realize that stereotyping could cause futher problems down the road.
We were never close as a family after getting married because of actions prior.

My kid brother received the benefit of their mistake with us.

My wife has no problems with my maternal side of the family, nor with my brothers.
There was a age difference, they liked the though of a big sister.

i got hit up by a lot of white girls. More so then my white friends.

They said it was my car, but we always walked to those parties so we didnt drive drunk.


To be honest i think that top statement has more to do with russel wong when he first came out. I remember the girls couldnt stop talking about him, and it was annoying.

my korean parents had high expectations for my younger brother and i. we played a lot of sports, took a lot of music lessons (yes i'm deaf and parents forced it) and after school classes paid by parents. i even attended saturday classes and summer schools. it was awful.

education was parents' favorite. brother and i graduated high school with mid 3.0 gpa (3.3 for him and 3.4 for me.) parents went insane when we got B's, sigh.

so much thing to took over my childhood life but i love my parents because hell bent loose when we went to college. i come from middle class family (upper class if you don't count middle class...)

i don't like when parents spoil us. they bought us cars and they expect something better in return. :/

So an overweight girl with crooked teeth may be attractive to many asian guys, a very thin girl with freckles like Lucy Liu may be considered ugly to them.
