i dont want to sound raciest, and you'll see this mostly in the upper class asian families.
Expecially koreans.
But usually a marriage outside of race means being disowned or embarrassed.
:\
Koreans are still stuck in traditions.
Something im not happy about, yet have to live by.
I'm Korean (not upper class but I guess upper middle class) and my parents were the opposite. They didn't hammer me on education neither and said we will support you no matter what you choose to do in life.
your parents should've adopted me.
my korean parents had high expectations for my younger brother and i. we played a lot of sports, took a lot of music lessons (yes i'm deaf and parents forced it) and after school classes paid by parents. i even attended saturday classes and summer schools. it was awful.
education was parents' favorite. brother and i graduated high school with mid 3.0 gpa (3.3 for him and 3.4 for me.) parents went insane when we got B's, sigh.
so much thing to took over my childhood life but i love my parents because hell bent loose when we went to college. i come from middle class family (upper class if you don't count middle class...)
i don't like when parents spoil us. they bought us cars and they expect something better in return. :/
Yeah, some of my friends had parents where they would get in trouble if they got a B on their report cards.

putting too much education on your mind?
i had good grades (3.44gpa in high school) but extra education was just too much for me because i also was involved in after school activities (key club, habitat for humanity, academic bowl...etc.)

Not to be a douchebag, but I've consistently seen white guys with asian girls that aren't good looking (no, its not just me - my friends and I have seen this at least 95% of the time).
So I say MORE POWER TO YOU WHITE GUYS who can't tell the difference
lol
Glad I'm not the only one who's noticed this. I'd say the 'best' looking ones I'ev seen are usually with the asian gangsta types.

I hope this thread doesn't result in a self-ownage
Edit: Share your stories!
Does this mean you think white women are more desirable than Asian women?

I dated an asian guy for a couple years in college and my family liked him much more than any of the crackers that I went out with (prior to dating my spouse.)

yeah definitely noticed that too. I feel like for some reason non-asian guys view asian girls differently, and have slightly differing standards in terms of beauty. Not necessarily different, but overlapping, I guess.
Definitely different standards. Most white guys think Lucy Liu is attractive, but I've heard Asian guys think she's ugly.
Freckles are usually considered cute in western society, but a blemish in eastern societies. Overweight is considered unattractive in the west, but a sign of success in the east. Same with crooked teeth, in the west we usually have them straightened while in Japan they think they're cute.
So an overweight girl with crooked teeth may be attractive to many asian guys, a very thin girl with freckles like Lucy Liu may be considered ugly to them.

I'm not making a claim that "hot white women go for the asian guys."
Sad.
Well during my college years, dayam i miss those, heh
i got hit up by a lot of white girls. More so then my white friends.
They said it was my car, but we always walked to those parties so we didnt drive drunk.
To be honest i think that top statement has more to do with russel wong when he first came out. I remember the girls couldnt stop talking about him, and it was annoying.

My korean fiancee went through the same thing, as did her sister and brother. I know how tough her parents were on her and her siblings, but I think parents should be very tough on their children when it comes to school. As tough as they were on her, they raised her very well. She finished her B.S. and M.S. in 5 years and she has a great career. She's also probably the most reliable and responsible person I know. Her parents did a great job, and I don't think she would have been this way if they took a more casual approach to her education.
We plan on raising our children the same way.

I agree. I am Korean and I am a gen 1.5, born in Korea and grew up here. I came here when I was 9 and it was a difficult adjustment, learning English and culture and all.
But my parents pushed me hard. Took piano and violin lessons, studied every night for 2 hours or so even when I was only 9.
They wanted a doctor out of me but they have to settle with a CPA. I didn't like how hard they pushed me but looking back, I am thankful and really appreciate it. Studying for things like CPA exam was not very difficult as I was disciplined at young age. It truly makes a difference when parents are involved in their children's education.
This is prime reason why so many Asians excel in academics and careers.
Oh and my parents are very open and liberal concerning my potential mate. They couldn't care less if she was white or not. They are even open to *gasp* Japanese girls (Koreans know what this is about).
