The chukka's look kinda neat. They remind me of the early 70's.
Unfortuneatly in this economy, however, I can only afford to shop at stores that end in ......mart. (Walmart, Kmart, shoemart, bulkmart etc.)

Nicer chukkas, of course. Cheaper chukkas, of course. Lower price for the same chukka? Probably - but not right now. And, you do get the free scarf.

Nicer AND cheaper? I doubt it. These are Goodyear welted and can be recrafted by AE after many years of wear.

Link? AE are excellent shoes...for the money. I wear their $300+ dress shoes to work everyday and have them rehabbed at the factory - you get around 10+ years out of a pair that way. You can buy cheaper shoes, but you get what you pay for.

And...American made.

from what I see, they aren't very nice looking, but that's subjective, just my opinion. for the price I'd buy something else. also, lands end has this pair on their website. they have significant % off sales quite frequently

I looked at that but it seems as though they only have D widths.

Allen-Edmonds - the entry into descent professional shoes. (That's a compliment).

The Gorillas are the only ones that are built the same way and are more expensive. And again, non-D widths are not an option.

all the lastcall pairs I posted are 30% off, all cheaper than the AEs(and they all look nicer, imo). What do you need your shoes to be built for? You don't think the hugo boss or varvatos pairs will handle some wear? and I'm pretty sure every pair I listed is a normal D width

If you're going to spend money on shoes, why not buy shoes that will be more comfortable and can be remade for a fraction of the original price? And only one of the pairs of shoes (not counting the pair from Barneys) you linked to are cheaper than in the OP.

As for the other point: what if I wanted a C or E width?

I misread what you meant about the widths. But the lastcall pairs I linked are all 30% off, all cheaper than the Allen Edmonds(which I think are kinda ugly, which is my main gripe. If the durability you convenience you mention is worth it to you, that's fine).

You're better off asking about specific shoes on styleforum.net or askandyaboutclothes.com.

Yeah in this economy you have desires, wants, needs, and necessities. Nice deal but computer parts are a necessity and shoes are a not any of the prior 4.

Depends on who you ask. My Sandy Bridge machine was $1000 and will be replaced in maybe 2 years. A nice pair of shell cordovan leather shoes might cost $500, but will last a lifetime.
