I CAIN'T KWIT YOUUUU!

I live in the midst of Kahleeforneeya's almond country (say it with me, a-mond,not al-mond)

I've never developed a taste for almond butter even though I love almonds.

We have lots of "nut farms" where they sell everything made from their produce; raw almonds, smokehouse almonds, almond butter, almond oil, almond candy, almond almond almond.....

I've tried a few of the other butters made from nuts, peanut butter is still by and far, my favorite. GIMMEE SKIPPY!

I'm sure there is.

It probably doesn't keep well though.

I just bought some. It's expensive and has to be refrigerated.

This stuff is not bad. It smells different of course and does taste different but there's not wildly different. I have to say I like it!

Almond butter is delicious and can be used like peanut butter, at least in sandwiches. Like PB, the nuts should be roasted, at least that's the way I prefer my almonds. I make both butters at home, but principally peanut, partly because it is much cheaper. I believe that PB has a higher protein content, too.

In that case, the almonds were over roasted. I met a student cook (we lived under the same roof) who told me that every day he over-roasted at least one batch of almonds. It's easy to do. Roasting nuts is a bit tricky and takes experience and care.

Both of these (especially macadamia) are very high in oil (i.e. calorie) content. Nowhere near as nutritious as almonds and especially peanuts. I do love cashew butter as well, and again, the roasted nuts are better. However, of these, cashews are the ones that make a creditable unroasted butter. Can't speak for macadamias because I have no experience with its butter, which is so fatty it's almost like eating "butter!"

It tastes like almonds, kinda the same way peanut butter tastes like peanuts.

I like all nut butters - peanut, almond, cashew, hazelnut, sesame...

I think an Almond/Cashew/Peanut butter mix would be tasty.

I bet it would!

I've always thought it would be cool to get one of the machines that they have at some grocery stores. The ones with the hopper ontop that grinds it fresh for you. Nothing better than fresh nut butter.

...And this thread gets even more homoerotic with my last statement...
I wore out the motors of several Waring blenders making nut butters. Then I got an Osterizer and it's going strong after many years and many adventures with tough nuts, etc. I made enough peanut butter to fill two 28 oz jars just ~10 days ago with that blender.

I was wondering a few weeks ago if I wasn't being stupid making my own peanut butter when I can buy two 28 oz jars of organic peanut butter at Costco for ~$7.50. But the sensational story about the Peanut Corporation of America and revelations about the shit that got into their products (salmonella, rats, cockroaches, pieces of metal...) has me thinking that I'm better off making my own from raw peanuts I can inspect myself. :Q

Skippy! Argh, I won't touch that stuff anymore. It's natural butters for me.

The first roommate I had at my college dorm was from Arbuckle CA, in the heart of almond country. He told me at the getgo that it's pronounced a-mond, not al-mond! Well, it's like that in a-mond country.

I believe costco has almond butter for about $8 a jar (lb.) Awesome stuff, just sprinkle a little salt for a fuller flavor.

My school cafeteria almost killed me with that. I'm allergic to almonds but not peanuts. I thought a peanut butter sandwich would be safe.

They need to call it what it is or you can seriously screw somebody up.

More like ah-mond, actually.

As I recall (many many a moon, mon) it's ah as in "after." He was a cool roommate. I know I learned from him, hope he learned from me.

That's about how I see it. The cost keeps me buying natural peanut butter for a 4th as much per oz.

Funny I just got almond butter for the first time the other day. It was good but a bit bland. The one I got needed a touch more salt to enhance the flavor, it had a very bland organic flavor. I was really shocked at the absurd pricing though. Like $13 for a small glass container. Maybe it's healthier but it didn't taste so good. Depends on the brand of course. I got some all natural organic stuff that was pretty bland. While it does taste like almonds, it has a surprisingly similar taste to peanut butter (organic). I saw cashew butter too but again it was also expensive.

Not the same but speaking of which I love apple butter. When I was a kid I used to eat that a lot on potato bread. MMmm...
