i am trying in vain to transfer photos from my moms iphone to her computer.

simple task

1. plug it in

2. ???????????????????????

3. google for answers.

4. ?????????????????????????

5. give up.

why can't i plug it in and drag and drop files off it?

why can't itunes do that?

android can do that.

android with es file explorer can even gain access to smb shares and transfer over wifi.

apple..... is pretty.... i guess.

Welcome to 2010. Stop complaining.

(When I plug it into a Windows box, I get a photo device with a DCIM folder and all the photos in it. Piece of cake. If you're on a Mac, you can use iPhoto, but you can also just use the Image Capture utility.)

dropbox + automatic camera uploads

I've been able to pull photos by plugging in my iphone and just pulling them off via explorer, but I don't remember if I had to change a certain setting in iTunes to make that happen.

Yeah I hate Apple for stuff like that, they overcomplicate stuff that should be easy. With my Android I just fire up an FTP server, FTP into the phone and get what I want. I can also FTP to an FTP server from the phone. SMB shares are an other option too... there's tons of options. But the majority of sheep buy a product because of marketing more than because of the product itself. You never see advertisements for non Apple phones (guessing they patented the idea of advertising for a phone?) so most people don't even realize that there are other options.

Then your computer is fucked. Maybe you have a virus.

nope.

figured it out.

you have to uninstall the apple mobile device driver.

SMFH.

how fucking pathetic is it that in 2016 you have to uninstall a device driver to get it to do what you want it to do.

I've never known anybody to fire up a FTP server to get pics off their phone.

I do it all the time, even Android phones require some kind of special driver so you can do drag and drop files (at least in Linux) so instead of bothering with that I just got an FTP app. I actually find it's easier that way. Come to think of it, I could probably automate it where it syncs with a folder on my server or something. I need to look into something like that for contacts actually.

There's a driver package that makes the phone show up as an icon under My Computer with the folder structure where you can just drag/drop photos.

The driver is included in itunes but you can find a standalone installer for it if you're avoiding iTunes.

Copy trans manager is a possible alternative. They also provide an installer for the Apple drivers. (bottom of the link below).

http://www.copytrans.net/download/

I agree it would be easier if it just attached as mass storage (even my Blackberry Classic does that )

Apple phones with a passcode don't share your pictures with just any computer because some A-hole could dump all your pics in a few seconds and you'd never know. Random USB chargers have been known to have built-in spy stuff.

- Connect to the computer.

- Unlock the phone with passcode or Touch ID.

- Tap "trust this computer"

If it has iTunes installed, it won't ask every time. It will recognize that computer as "trusted" in the future.

You're complaining about a KICK-ASS feature.

Drivers are not needed. He probably didn't unlock the phone and tap "trust this computer" after connecting it to the computer.

Already tried that didn't work.
Had to delete a driver to get it to be recognized as a mass storage device.
