Look at the accident rates on the Autobahn.
They have stretches of it where there are no speed limit.
The accident rates there are lower than over here.

There was a special on the History Channel recently about the Autobahn. There are a variety of reasons why the Autobahn is (ironically) safer, but the two main ones are that drivers actually concentrate and obey traffic rules.

Since that would never work on the U.S. interstate highway system, a speed limit isn't a bad idea.

I'm in my tie and dress shirt, ready to rock and roll. Speeding was absolutely stupid for me to do and I'm just gonna tell the judge straight-up that it is my fault, desperately hoping he'll reduce the fine.

Wish me luck!

ok op, update your 1st post

I'm sure he'll update, he just hasn't been here since he left to go to court.

What do you mean by Stefaned? Did he do the same thing as syringer?

yeah. Stefan didn't bother to update the thread on this ailing grandmother until today LOL

He was hauled away infront of the judge.

Okay, not him, but I saw that happen to someone. He looked suprised too that he's going to jail right there and then.

I've yet to get a speeding ticket, still have to pay high insurance rates. I don't blame people who do speed, I blame insurance companies and the government that gives them a monopoly. The fact that I'm male and under the age of 30 means I'm screwed, no matter how well I drive. If I was a 98 year old woman who took driver's ed, insurance would be rock bottem. Also speeding "fines" are very unfair, punishing people with lower incomes over the rich. I'm more afraid of a rich kid in his new whatever than a guy driving a pinto.

It's pretty ignorant to make such broad statements in this case where the facts aren't known. If he's doing 110 in front of a school at 8:00 AM he should have the book thrown at him. However from the information he stated (the only info known, I assume he's telling the truth basicly) it was in a 65 zone in the middle of the night. I can name 3 highways within 10 miles where such an activity at 5 AM would be completely safe, at least to other people. Of course I live in the great plains where you can see for several miles around you.

I've been hassled by the police enough that I don't trust a cop I don't personally know, lucky for me I know several good ones. One time, for example, I met a cop at 2 in the morning driving 55 in a 65 zone when he decides to whip a u-turn and speed up until he was about 5 yards behind me, brights on. Had a real good time trying to drive when you're being blinded by headlights. I drive perfect for 5 miles til I turn off, he whips it back around and continues on. If it matters I was driving a SUV with my seatbelt on, everything legal.

Wonder why some people like me are a bit angry at power-hungry cops? I even roomed with a guy that was training to be a cop and although he's a good friend, I don't want to see him with a badge. Yes, police shouldn't be jerks as part of their job. Is that too much to ask of somebody in such a powerful position? They're humans, true, but they're humans with the ability to ruin or save lives. They should be held to higher standards just as we expect higher standards for teachers and people in all positions of authority.

Thats my rant for the day, just read the thread. Here's hoping he doesn't get ripped too bad.

BTW, I don't speed usually, just don't need to. However, I completely understand where some of the leadfoots are coming from.

Insurance companies don't have a monopoly. They compete against one another. Young people have higher insurance rates because as a group, they're much more prone to get into accidents or reckless driving.

Which is discrimination: sexual, racial and age. I don't have a problem with charging younger groups more money, but they need to be the same for everyone, and need to be reduced (or increased) at regular, fair intervals based on ones driving record.

I'm not more prone to get into an accident, no matter what group I'm in, but I know what you're saying. I understand the rate system, don't agree with it, but that's the insurance company's business not mine. I'd like to see an insurance company go outside the lines a bit and try to reward good drivers instead of setting rates just based on gender, age, and vehicle. I doubt such a company would be allowed to exist as the government regulates the common sense out of the industry. Doesn't the practice of profiling in insurance seem out of place in our PC age? What if women were to become the more dangerous of the two genders, statistic wise? (no comment on reality, but tempting ) There'd be a lawsuit in a second.

Seriously, all kidding aside, I hope you learned your lesson. Maybe next time you'll know to get a radar detector and laser jammer before you speed.

Since he's not even logged in since then, it's safe to say the judge tossed him in jail.

Here's to hoping he isn't Bubba's cell-mate! :Q

Although I would love to think that he got his ass thrown in jail, has anyone considered that maybe his REAL LIFE took him away from ATOT, and NOT the judge tossing him in a cell? Not that many of you ever stray from here for more than 5 minutes, so I doubt the thought ever occured to you folks.

He flashed a pic of him and his girlfriend at Prom and the judge let him off...

Eventually using that pic in every place possible got paid off

Why would that be locked???

Anyways, looks like he put it off for another day. He really should request a trial by jury though... Cost them as much money as possible.

He won't be going back to trial, I was driving back from Massachusetts today and I saw the cops chasing a Mazda 6. The car flew by me really fast but I could of sworn is was LolyourFace driving. A few minutes later I come to a stop in front of a big accident. Turns out he lost control of his car and crashed into a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer jacknifed and spilled sex toys all over the road. His Mazda 6 was totally squished, I doubt he survived. Anyways I had to sit there for 3 hours while they cleaned up the mess.
