Are those pretty quick? I had a friend w/ a Mazda mp3 that was into autocross. He could get up to about 120 in that little car given enough time. Within the first year he had it, he had to get all new brakes and rotors. They were warped from 120-50mph stopping on the highway. That car handled like I couldn't believe though... Mazda's are the only Japanese cars with great styling. They really have a road presence, I love 'em.
The v6 version will do around 140.

Is that where they're governed?
I don't know where/if they're governed, but a 4th and 5th gen maxima with similar power to weight will do a touch over 140, so that ballpark could be well applied to a Mazda 6.

If I can do 95+ in my Isuzu Rodeo, a Mazda 6 can do 110.

and a ford explorer can do 116...what's the point ?

-=bmacd=-
ok mr. my car is better than yours... all I said was that there's no reason why a Mazda 6 can't do a measely 15mph over an SUV.

Oh hmm well it would probably max out around 125 I'd guess from drag!

110mph isn't really a threat to others if it's done on a 4 lane highway with no traffic around (really quiet road), its just when there's a cop there to get you that it sucks.

I think most responsible people (ie: not idiots/teens who are more likely to be idiots) will speed only when safe to do so.
I doubt the OP would go 110 in a 65 if there were lots of cars all around.

Bah... our '90 Accord 4-banger can probably do 110.

My Acura is governed @ 129 or so. I've only been up to 110mph in it. It 'feels' like it could do 150 or 160 though. Thing sounds like an F1 car when it revs up around 6k rpms. I thought the Mazda 6s were pretty much in line w/ the Acura TL S types, around 250hp or so?

The 6 cylinder has 220 HP and the 4 has 160.

If you have a new acura TL you could hit 150 but you'll be hard pressed to go much faster I would guess.

What kind of car?

Ignore the haters, they live in safe little boxes and never do anything dangerous or wreckless.

What are you, stupid? The "haters" aren't worried about themselves. They're worried about the van full of little children this moron piles into because he lost control of his car.

Bad things happen to good people. If he didn't run into them, maybe their tire would have blown out and they all die anyways. Who knows? C'est la vie.

You're such a f*cking moron. I'm waiting for you to win a Darwin Award. Just try not to take anyone else with you when you croak.

It's not a new one, it's a 2003. They say the '04s do 0-60 in 5.4... as fast as the Lightning. :Q

as long as you dont make excuses the judge will reduce the fine. and if the cop doesnt show up then say the cop ticketed the wrong person and it'll get thrown out

Haha "only 160." My dad used to drive a 1985 Mercedes 300SD Turbodiesel. It weighed about 2 tons and was ~120hp. He's made it up to 120 in that thing...so if your small sedan with 160hp can't make it to 110...that would be very sad.

110 should be cake for a 6. how fast it gets there is another question.

and if you want to talk about speeding... 95% of the ppl around 495 here go 80 (limit is 55mph).. assuming it's not rush hour. Going the speed limit seems like a danger sometimes.. ppl can't judge what other ppl are doing and switch lanes practically in front of them. It becomes a game of weaving and making sure you have an opening everywhere....

Um... differences in aerodynamics and gearing have a much larger impact on top speed than horsepower alone. Stop bench racing for top speed. It's easy to go way faster than that. Also, anyone going that fast is probably paying a lot more attention than someone commuting to work at a regular speed. I would be more likely to hit you going 70 on my way to work than when i was topping my car out at 143mph (at 2am on a 5 lane highway).

So STFU.

Judging by your profile I'd assume you got the ticket in Massachusetts. You are very lucky that they don't have reckless driving laws like they do in New York State.
110 in a 65 in New York would result in the loss of your license. You'd be paying a lot more than $650 for a good lawyer just to keep your license.

I always like it how I'm doing 85 and get passed on 459 by someone doing 90-100.

That doesn't make you want to go faster than them? I've never grown out of that. Neither as my dad. "You think you'll go faster than me? We'll see about THAT!"

...not that speeding is right.

That'll only help you if the cop is driving around with his radar gun on. If he doesn't turn it on until he sees you speeding, then no radar detector in the world will help you.
