The Shining get funnier every time I see it.

My top ten Scary Movies:
(special nominee) - The ending to Carrie. I know what happens, but I jump every time.
10. Nightmare On Elm Street
9. Alien
8. The Beyond (by Lucio Fulci)
7. Halloween
6. Xtro
5. Les Diaboliques
4. The Haunting (original, 1963)

1. The Exorcist (with the crab scene restored)

My list of downright creepy films:
Jacob's Ladder (gets creepier every time I watch it)
The Thing (remake)
Prince of Darkness
The Devil's Backbone
The Others
(surprisingly) Salem's Lot [TV movie]
Phenomena
Beyond the Door (and/or) Shock
The Brood
Hellraiser
The Legend of Hell House (see the Haunting first)
The Gift

Fun horror films
The Shining (all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy)
An American Werewolf in London
Idle Hands
May (one of my new fun favorites)
The Abominable Dr. Phibes

I think all of these are on DVD and VHS, so they might be in your local (real, not bleahbuster) video store.

I can't watch scary movies. I think I was traumatized as a child after watching Poltergeist, Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Exorcist.

I'll take Lizzie Maguire movie anyday.

The Ring. That one is pretty scary for everyone. To me Blair Witch was scarier but I have an overactgive imagination.

Yeah, I saw The Blair Witch right when it came out, and since I saw it an hour away from where it was filmed, that might have had something to do with it.

Okay.. Now keep in mind I am 22 so my taste may not be as mature (I had not seen the original shining until 6 months ago)...

Blair Witch Project and the Ring.

Both of these movies got me good. But I think you have to have the right setting and mood to work. Seeing a scary movie is like taking a sleeping pill, if you fight it hard enough - it won't work. Both movies I saw in the theater and I had NO idea what they were about. I had not seen and previews or commercials. I know a lot of people hated Blair Witch and the movie was very boring at parts. BUT, the ending had me spooked.

Actually I thought the Sixth Sense had some nice scenes. Word on the streets is that the japanese version of The Ring is suppose to be really scary. I thoroughly enjoyed the American version for the storyline

After like 4 or 5 attempts Im convinced there is not a single scary movie in this entire world. I heard Wrong Turn was supposed to be scary... PFFT! Not scary at all, neither was Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or Dreamcatcher. Maybe its the environment we are watching them in, once in movie theatre, should abeen scary. Once in a house with lights on, that might make a difference, and once in house with lights off. So it shoulda been scary...

But anyway, someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE gimme some true movies that are scary/disturbing perhaps? Anything come on, Im desperate here. Ive heard Seven is really scary... anyone know?

Well, the movies you've been seeing are more massacre movies than 'scary' movies. The Ring, The Eye, Exorcist, Event Horizon are a few examples of nice scary movies.

Ever hear of different tastes? Some are more prone to psychological horror than massacre horrors. People with chainsaws and machetes aren't scary for me, but little psychological frights like those in The Ring, Sixth Sense, The Others, scare me. I remember being 10 years old and my neighbor and i use to watch movies like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, i never found those scary, even though i loved the Nightmare series. But i remember one time watching the Exorcist over at his house, and had trouble walking home because it was so scary.

I thought Candyman was a good scary movie.

There was no one thing in particular that was scary about it... the whole movie just builds this sense of dread in you as it goes along.

I saw it at 2PM with sunlight streaming in the windows and it got me.

I second this....scary as fvck

Defenitely a great movie. Not so much scary for me as it was generally disturbing. I will say I've never looked at Sam Neil the same. He used to seem so harmless

"Hell is just a word. The reality is much worse" Best. scary. movie. line. evar.

Btw, what's with all the people saying the Ring? The most disturbing part of that movie was the horse getting pwned.

Traditional horror movies don't hold much scare over me as violence and murder are overplayed in hollywood and don't generate that scary of circumstances anymore. Sci-Fi is really the only venue that can present me with fear, because of the limitless possibilities, the dessolation, the cold, dark, removed, unhuman aspects of fear. The original Alien when it came out was creepy like that, but Event Horizon plays the sci-fi desolation/unknown aspect along with the pure evil/malice of Hell itself, and they did a pretty good job with it, IMHO.

You should have added:

The Innocents - a real bizarre, creepy movie similar to the original The Haunting.

The original alien move is great. Especially with the lights out.

Unfortunately, it's hard to get scared about a movie once you've seen it and there are too many poor horror films out there.

Alien is much scarier than The Shining IMO,
and The exorcist didn´t scare me at all.

I thought The Eye was pretty dissapointing. I was expecting it to be more scary. Started out pretty good and had a decent premise, but sorta fizzled out half way thru.
