Altec Lansing 251's or Logitech Z-640's?

Hey guys, I'm looking into purchasing a cheaper 5.1 speaker system. I think I've narrowed it down to the Altec Lansing 251's and Logitech Z-640's. Anybody have any experience with either of these systems? I prefer higher quality music than in my games. I'm also using an Audigy2 ZS. Thanks for your input.

For playing music I'd say you would be better off w/ the Altec Lansing 251's, the Logitechs have somewhat more bass and it's more pronounced but both are great sets of speakers. The 251's tend to have better mid range response compared to the logitechs or so I've heard. Hope this helps...

Logitechs have more bass and sound better to me. I'd take them

Ok, thanks for your input so far. I'm just not sure now - seems that a lot more people use the Z-640's (just based off the amount of reviews at newegg, etc.). Ahhh, can't make up my mind. And I want to hurry and order them so there's still a chance that NewEgg can get my order processed and shipped today. Any more input? thanks for what u've said so far guys - it's helping

Another vote for the 640s. I love mine. They are bassy, but I like it!

Yup, 640s here also and have not a single complaint. I got mine for $50 after rebates and sales price, so how could I complain anyhow?

If you love bass, and everyone who lives with you likes hearing it too, the Z-640s are good. I like mine, but I would like them much less if my soundcard (nForce2 MCP-T) didn't have a software equalizer to tame the low-frequency sounds. Even at the lowest that the subwoofer control will allow, the bass is still pretty strong. (At maximum, it can start to shake small objects off my desk.) I like the sound from them though.

Ok, I know I'm gonna be kicking myself tomorrow for spending so much money... but I ended up going with the Logitech Z-2200... THX certified. they seem to be pretty good. thanks for the guidance on here
