I'm pretty sure this is a hot deal. You'll find it here at compgeeks. It's acually listed for $152 when you search for it. I went to purchase one of the dvd drives and before it added it to my card, a "special" page came up asking me if I'd like to add one of these items on special. The ADA880 was added to my cart for $124! Here's the link:
UPDATE
No longer $124 at compgeeks. it's $152.

Compgeeks: $152 ADA880 Remote in picture and in decription

http://www.compgeeks.com/cgi-bin/details.asp?cat=MultiMedia&sku=205-8805

Staples: $334.99 Picture doesn't show remote-remote not in description. ADA880W

http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/SKU.asp?BCFlag=False&PageType=1&SKU=IM1205680

Buy.com: $226.95 ADA880R Remote in picture NOT in description

http://www.us.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10216968&loc=101

What is the difference between:

Compgeeks: ADA880 (description says "same as ADA880R". Then why not say ADA880R)
Staples: ADA880W
Buy.com: ADA880R
Altec Lansing: ADA880R Link below:
http://www.alteclansing.com/products/ada880_gaming.html

Seems like a hot deal to me. I guess you could pricematch Staples to the $124 price and use $25 off 100 to bring to $99. Or pm the $152 price and use $40 off 150 to bring to $114. But $124 without pricematch still seems good!

UPDATE:
I also found it here at gogocigy.com for $129.95!
http://www.gogocity.com//product_details.asp?dept%5Fid=831&pf%5Fid=CO4141SPK031&mscssid=XUH7AR3VG4S92JEN00JP42PFCCFB6R69

Why are there such huge price differences? From $330 to $130! Wierd!

Looks nice.

I've been looking for a good pair of speakers for my rig....as opposed to the $10 POS's that I grabbed free.

I wonder if they have these at Best Buy...

Apparently the only difference between the "white box"(ada880w) and the ada880 is the ada880w comes in a white box. THere other(ada880) comes in the pretty altec lansing box. So they both have the same hardware. No difference accept for the box they come in. I called to verify.

Hey, when doing the pricematch, don't we need to consider the the S&H costs since Staples uses the overnight shipping cost. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that gets our final price to very very expensive since these speakers weigh almost 30 pounds. Well, let me know how the pricematches go for the rest of you guys. Thanks.

Zero: Thanks for the heads up on a great deal!

junthin:

Well, technically not...Staples policy also states that if an order is above $50, they don't add the shipping.

You'd probably have to argue to get them to agree, but it's in their pricematching policy...

Screw these*. Anyone know where I can get a deal on the ADA885's ... the Dell OEM ones? They're THX certified, have a headphone jack, and accept two analog inputs (for true four speaker setups).

*I'm not saying it because they're bad. I actually own a set. I just want the Dell OEM ones really bad.

Well I guess you can try egghead with a pricematch too.

http://www.egghead.com/category/inv/00000265/03251882.htm
$18 shipping.

So if you had Staples pm, it would be 129 - (25 coupon - 18 shipping) = $122 + tax. Maybe about $130 total. Still not bad.

There is another method to try if you don't mind spending the money up front. It's worked for me before.

Purchase from staples: $335-40 coupon = $295
Call back an hour or 2 later and tell them you just purchased an item from them but found it cheaper($130) somewhere else. Tell them you want the pricematch difference. If you are lucky they will refund you the difference of $205(335-130). So you paid 295 - 205 refund = $90 +applicable taxes. Of course they will verify the price difference. With this method you may be able to avoid shipping charges.

UPDATE
What is the difference between this ADA880 and the one linked above?
http://www.egghead.com/category/inv/00030814/02920639.htm
This is getting too confusing!!!

Disclaimer
If you don't like to deal with staples or you don't like to haggle with prices, please don't try this...because it may not work and I don't want to be responsible for your frustrations.

SuperRob, the ada885's suck... you'd be better off getting the klipsch promedias ($249 w/ free shipping at outpost.com)

The klipsch speakers are double the price of the ALs...But then again the klipsch speakers pump out 400 watts of power. I saw those puppies in action at a friend's house while watching Saving Private Ryan on DVD. All I gotta say is DAMN...

hell, if you want your braggin rights, gotta go with the midiland s2 4100's! there was a guy in our dorm who had a klipsch set and i was totally unimpressed with its performance in music dept. (not sayin anything about the movies, it was awesome with them dvd's) i actually had him come over to my room and he admitted mine sounded noticably richer & smoother & warmer & sweeter & better overall

IronTek: Thanks for the info. I always thought Staples adds the overnight shipping fees that the company charges you that you are pricematching against, eventhough Staples gives you free shipping above $50.00. I called 3 times and every CSR told me that. I guess I'll just go try again. Thanks.

Any luck on the pricematch yet? Anyone?

Why is it that when I click on the Computer Geeks link, it says they are $152 and there is no button to push to order them? Is it just me? I would really like these speakers. $124 is a great deal

If you click on the link now you can "add to your cart" but it's at the 152 price. the 124 is no longer. I'm guessing the best bet would be to try the above egghead deal with staples pricematching them w/ coupon. I have not yet purchaed these speakers because I'm debating whether or not I want the FPS2000 for a similar(if not cheaper price). But, I'm not sure if the FPS2000 will work with my Aureal SQ2500 soundcard. I read on cnet that the FPS2000 has a proprietary cable used with the sb live cards only.? I'm not sure about that though.

Zero,
I can't decide between the FPS 2000 and these either. I have a Live, but don't have digital output addon. Hmmm. This may take some decision making

Zero, and others:
I have a SQ2500 and the FPS2000
You do not need a special digital jack to use the FPS 2000's, you can use the front and rear jacks.
I think the FPS2000's are better; they offer REAL 4-point surround with a Front and Rear jack.
If you have any SB Live! Digital sound card...the FPS 2000's are a must.

grlaw,
Do you mean you can use the digital input on the fps2000? I know you can use the fps2000 with vortex but I wanted to use the digital output on the SQ2500 with speakers that have a rca/coaxial input. And as far as I know the fps2000 do not have the rca/coax input. They have some special digital input. does the fps2000 come with a cable that goes from their proprietary input to a rca/coax output? Thanks!

Yea your right Zero...only the special "Creative Labs" Digital Input crap.
BTW, I heard Aureal is out of business or going out of business, can't remember.
Hope I helped!

The ADA880R as compared to the other version has USB connectivity for some added software control of the speakers. Also, for a while buy.com had the speakers in the clearance section for 159.99, where you could use the 30$ off coupon. I used this about a month ago and they sound perfect. Also, you get free shipping in the clearance area.

Oh yeah, the ones I got were not the ADA880R version, they were the 880W version, which made me mad, but it is still a good deal.

Bullshit. I've got a set of the ADA880's, and a SBMP3. all you need to do to get the digital audio working between them is go down to Radio Shack, and spend $2 for an spdif-RCA connector. Plug an RCA cable into your woofer, plug the connector in to your SB card. No problems.
