Properly violent, tasteful and pretty nudity, great sci-fi concepts, bladerunner influence.

Excellent. Very, very solid effort by Netflix in this genre.

One thing I was thinking is all these concepts of the future tall buildings with with advertisements and its always raining, there is always a oriental future vibe to it. Now with AC i see some hispanic influence with the family and the dead stuff. So I was thinking about an hispanic influenced future society sci- fi as opposed to just about every other sci-fi were it is asian, oriental, ect.

Bankcroft's wife has near 0% body fat.
didn't think women aged 45 in real life could have abs like that.

Finished it last night. Both my wife and I were very entertained. It was a great mix of sci-fi, philosophical thought and crime thriller. One question that I never got answered or just missed was:

How did the envoys get their clairvoyance? Examples - the first episode where Tak can "see" the Praetorian's through the walls and sense their presence. Or when Vernon was tied to the chair he could sense that he was going to fling the table and charge him. They took the time to show those precognitions in a different format. It went to sort of an orangish x-ray vision. What was the ability and what made it unique to the envoy's?

I haven't read the books, perhaps it's explained there. Some guesses:

- It's not a direct sense, it's more like Sherlock's ability to visualize and predict events through indirect evidence like sounds of footsteps.
- It's Ghost in the Shell style hacking of the sensors in a building: sound, vibration, temperature and vision.
- It's implants. The first episode did mention the Ryker shell was enhanced and the Protectorate spec ops shells probably were too.

ah.. the last one makes most sense.
explains why he has it and his sister doesn't even though they both went thru envoy training.

and plot hole:
Why don't the Meths have multiple backup copies?
Windows 7 have weeks worth of Restore Points

I'm gonna guess because if they did then it's nearly impossible to pull off what they did in the finale. Shows/movies need that one flaw that's usually covered in real life to get the plot moving.

I wonder how it differs from the book.

I thought that only the really rich could do backups. I mean Laurens has his own personal satellite. Honestly it sounds bogus that it would take that much tech to do a backup, if you accept the premise, the rest seems to follow.

Well... I’d imagine that you would want keep your backup safe if you’re super rich and powerful. I’d imagine that the future day equivalent of a Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton would have a lot of enemies who would want to make sure that they disappear permanently. When you’re hated that much, backing up your consicionousness on a flash drive isn’t going to cut it.

His sleeve was augmented with military grade neurachem.

From the Wikia: Neurachem is a chemical-physical augmentation to the sleeve’s nervous system, often referred to as being ‘wired’ or ‘carved’. Neurachem accelerates reflexes, extends your eyesight, and increases overall speed and strength, as well as reducing sensitivity to pain. Activation can be triggered by an instinctive reaction to incoming threat or by conscious choice. Neurachem is visible on activation as a faint glow, spreading nearly instantaneously through the hairlike nerves across the human body.

Interesting. It followed sleeves.

The Ryker sleeve had this (mentioned by the warden), and we can assume the Protectorate sleeves did too. So a normal "slow-grown" clone of Ryker would not have it. It's plausible that a 3D-printed clone would have it if the clone was printed by scanning the augmented Ryker sleeve instead of using only a genetic sample.

Yes, since at the opening scene Tak was a former CTAC Praetorian on the run for terrorism is seems likely that he would have previously been enhanced at “military grade neurachem” level as well before he went rogue.

I would presume so, it's not really an enhancement it's effectively equipment that enhances the native senses and fighting abilities. Akin to how most modern U.S. special forces members would be issued night vision goggles nowadays but very few civilians would have them. And remember this is still fiction. One of the better changes in the series that wasn't in the source AC book is describing the CTAC guys as having the internal controls against violence completely trained out of them, that's one of the themes from his other book Thirteen which the producers were wise to adopt.

hm.. the show made it seem like only envoys had this power.
ie: envoy intuition

At least in the Netflix version that might be true, possibly because an Envoy can use the augments much better than a normal elite soldier. I don't recall any explanation of it in the series.

Yeah it's plot armor to a certain extent but it's (to me at least) not so egregious that it hampered my enjoyment of the series although YMMV. For me it was stretching an ability that was already in the storyline and not shoehorning in some deus ex machina. Like this one for example.

Well, logic and loop holes aside, its a VERY well made show; characters, script, cinematography, acting, set, special effects, everything is excellent. I was having serious doubts about the story line towards the middle of the season, it seemed all over the place, but in the end they tied it all back together very nicely. I gave it a 5/5.

Probably a bit off topic, but all the brouhaha about "white washing" is just grinding my gears... it had a pretty diverse cast and characters, blaming the show for putting an Asian man in white sleeve was juts stupid. Is that the world we are living now? everything male, white, mainstream or majority is characterized as bad choice? Takes the joy out of enjoying a good show...

My understanding is that the show followed what happened in the book - he was put in a white body in the book so thats what he did. In another book he was put in a black body (i haven't read the books, just what i read online)

If it follows the books on the next season he should be in a Maori sleeve. They were the default lab grown combat optimized sleeve the protectorate military would use. However there’s no reason Tak couldn’t be any race, ethnicity, or even gender since presumably unlike the first book/season there isn’t an explicit plot point putting him in a white make.
