I would presume so, it's not really an enhancement it's effectively equipment that enhances the native senses and fighting abilities. Akin to how most modern U.S. special forces members would be issued night vision goggles nowadays but very few civilians would have them. And remember this is still fiction. One of the better changes in the series that wasn't in the source AC book is describing the CTAC guys as having the internal controls against violence completely trained out of them, that's one of the themes from his other book Thirteen which the producers were wise to adopt.

then why didn't the other CTAC guys see him as they were entering his apartment? Seems pretty lousy of the 5 or 6 of them to get ambushed like that. They also had those fancy helmets on with all that gear.

Well, logic and loop holes aside, its a VERY well made show; characters, script, cinematography, acting, set, special effects, everything is excellent. I was having serious doubts about the story line towards the middle of the season, it seemed all over the place, but in the end they tied it all back together very nicely. I gave it a 5/5.

Probably a bit off topic, but all the brouhaha about "white washing" is just grinding my gears... it had a pretty diverse cast and characters, blaming the show for putting an Asian man in white sleeve was juts stupid. Is that the world we are living now? everything male, white, mainstream or majority is characterized as bad choice? Takes the joy out of enjoying a good show...

I actually felt that much of the casting and writing was rubbish, but not all of it. I still think it was decently entertaining--the set design was amazing, for one. The cinematography was "well better than competent."

I didn't know there were complaints about "white washing" here, but it doesn't surprise me--I rather assumed that would happen--but I agree that it is pointless. The asian actor still grabs roughly 20 or 30% of scream time, plus he can more or less be placed in any body, right? This story mechanic allows you to cast whatever the hell you want--and besides, isn't that the story anyway? How you complain about casting a white person and a korean person to play a white role and a korean role in the same character? ...or are they complaining about the Korean? sister being played by a tibetan/australian half-breed?

The actresses who play the detective and Tak's sister are horrible. I cringe at every scene baaaad. Not finished yet, but yeeeeesh....i guess they blew their budget on fx

Just curious do you generally like Sci-Fi shows?

Yes. I saw some references to Bladerunner which sparked my interest (love original and 2049). Grew up on Star Wars. Loved Westworld...looking forward to next season.

I liked the premise of this show (DHF stacks, immortality, economic divide, murder mystery, etc). The set design and production values were good. Acting, pacing, characters, plot all fell flat. The desire of the sister to have her brother back was unrealistic/creepy. The main actor sucked (I have liked him in other roles), Ortega and Rei didn’t shine (not sure if it was the acting or the character). I hated the main Envoy leader character (his main love interest...can’t remember her name at the moment ). Tak’s birth skin actor did a pretty good job. Really disliked the Lizzie character along with her parents...seemed like a completely unnecessary, filler side story...the daughter’s actor just annoyed me. Bancroft characters actually did a good job and I did like Poe a lot.

Ortega felt a bit too much like she was reading lines at times and Rei was just... maybe a little too much on the creepy? Maybe they had trouble finding actresses that were willing to do nude scenes? I think pretty much every main actress was nude at some point except for the lawyer lady... and sort of Lizzie. (You got a behind shot of her.)

General note, I think some of you dig too dip into irrelevant crap. You have the right of course.

In any case, I re-watched the whole season. Some things came out that I had totally missed during 1st watching. Still like it very much.

What worries me a little is that not much was left to continue on for possible 2nd season.

I usually say that...but I don’t think any of my critiques were on details. I do not try to find plot holes in shows and generally will give a show/movie a lot of leeway (I am one of the few that enjoyed Prometheus). I also enjoy over the top stuff (mad max type stuff). This just didn’t do it for me...and I was wanting to like it.

Well, there's the whole thing about finding that resistance lady/leader, which he was about to do.

I don't think pointing out that the writing was sub-par and the casting was just north of shit qualifies as nit-picking, it's just a frank observation of reality. There was a lot to like about this show: set design, world, the overarching storyline....but it takes more than that to carry through an entire series. Casting really is an important thing. Added to average writing, you end up with something that doesn't inspire much reason to continue on.

If those things weren't important, Prometheus would have been considered a grand achievement in the minds of many nerds of the world, but it was not. ...I still liked Prometheus, though, for the qualities that I thought this show did rather well. But Prometheus asked for only 2+ hours of your attention--not 10, and possiblly more

Just finished watching the season last night. I thought it was excellent. Yes, there are some minor plot holes, but they weren't a big deal to me.

Funny, I started watching The Killing with the wife while watching this show. Had no idea the main actor and Bankroft's wife are in both shows. I don't think he's bland as everyone makes him out. I actually liked the way he played his character a lot.

Hey, everybody is right here. Every one has their own opinion.

I do prefer The Machine to Ex Machina and others will probably find writing/casting deficiency with the former.

I am perfectly fine with casting and script in the series.

I liked him 10000x more in The Killing.

This isn't correct. The show made a lot of changes to the background compared to book. In the book part of Envoy training includes having violence limitations removed. The line describing this in the show was straight lifted from the book.

Envoys in the book are a combination of CTAC and the Envoys in the series. Envoys in the book are the UEs special forces sent to crush dissent. There are no CTAC Praetorians.

I'm down for another season. Thought the first one was thoroughly meh, but it had good world-building and solid production at least. Characters were...wholly forgettable, which is problematic, really. But hey, in this era of binge-watching content, it's not like anyone remembers much of a 10+ episode season that they watched throughout a week anyway, right?

We are all lemmings.

Haven't seen it yet but it's on my watch list for sure. Didn't know it was based on a book series. Hopefully I'll get around to it in the near future.

Interesting, I read Altered Carbon and had no idea that there were 2 other books as it concluded the story. Then again... there's who knows how many Jack Reacher book and each typically concludes their story line.
