I've only seen the first episode so far, and it seems... fine? The acting is probably the weakest part so far as both Joel Kinnaman and the female detective feel almost... too forced or one-note in their performance. Kinnaman's "Tak" seems like he's supposed to be that sort of bad-ass character that doesn't need to say much, but I just don't get that vibe.

As a side note, I have a bit of a dislike for their abbreviating Takeshi as "Tak"... mostly because that's the same thing Tokyopop did to Takumi in the Initial D manga when they translated it.

I actually like how he's playing Tak and so far (episode 3) I think the show is pretty good. I'm a little worried about where they are going but until then the ride seems fine.

Got to watch the entire series on a couple of cross-country flights and thought it was fucking awesome. I’m a big fan of the source books and think they both respected them and added some interesting new angles as well. Couple of changes I disagreed with but overall must everything they did actually improved the original story lines from the book. This series is what I thought Blade Runner 2049 would be but actually succeeds, and looks like it was made with just as big a budget TBH. Thoroughly impressed.

I thought Bladerunner 2049 was fantastic.

Interested in the show. Trailer seemed a bit over the top, but fun. Not familiar with the source material at all.

It's good, but not "House Of Cards Season 1" good. All of the violence and sex seems to be a bit over the top... it started reminding me of the Starz version of Spartacus towards the end.

The book was written that way and the series doesn't really add any sex or violence that wasn't in the original (with one exception that doesn't change the overall tone).

I'm picturing you sitting on a throne like an emperor at a gladiator game, and at the end everyone looks at you waiting for a thumb up or thumb down.

Saw the first episode out of curiosity. Love the visuals and the cyber punk look and feel. The story seemed a little slow and so far I don't really care about any of the cast, most likely because of the premise of what is "true death" in that world. if this show fails, it's gonna be from that plot point where they have the room to pretty much get away with anything they want.

Having read the book, I feel like the series has lost a little of the books soul. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Stuff like the Envoy background, and how Kovacs went from being just an Envoy, to an Envoy that fought on the wrong side of the war.

And the whole "Envoys take what is offered."

Just... doesn't feel right.

Depends on the audience.

As generic SciFi, I would call it average. Too much CGI, and the lead actor is completely bland and uninteresting. If the lead doesn't work, nothing works.

As someone who read the book, I voted for "kind of sucks" since that was what was below average. It changes significant things in negative ways. So, not as good as the book, coupled with the bland lead, makes it a below average experience for this book reader.

I would call it excellent. A coworker of mine has a female friend who said she stopped watching it because she didn't like the way the show portrayed women, completely missing the point that in the show, if you're a member of the lower class you get treated extremely poorly regardless of your gender. And I like how they portray the effectively immortal extremely wealthy as something a bit other than human (i.e. they lost their humanity). It's surprisingly deep scifi, and I think it'll be worth rewatching at some point to see what I missed the first time around. Note: I'm 7 episodes in at the time I am writing this.

I watched all the episodes, it's just OK for me.
The detective story bit is decent, but I'm not too big on this 'apocalyptic dehumanized society' vision of the future, it's much heavier on Fi than Sci. And I got the impression that more time is dedicated to this background aspect than the main plot.

Thanks for all of the votes so far. It's an interesting distribution which seems to skew to the high end so right now I think I'm going to be checking this out.

I've gone from watching a lot of tv to almost none and I have no idea why. I have an idea but that's a topic for another thread. So if I can avoid it, I really don't want to invest any time in a show I'm going to have to abandon. This helps me out a lot.

I started watching it that stopped before 10 mins I will try again this weekend. All my friends and family are saying its very good. I'm getting tired of fight and chase scenes they are mostly boring to me unless truly epic.

I tend to ff through those too. Sometimes there's dialog you need and can't do that but usually it's an option. I generally don't mind too much if there's good sfx though.

2 episodes in, wife and I are enjoying it. It is interesting and some twists so far, and a few more that we can already see (or think we do). Gonna try and finish it before we start anything else.

I wouldn't go by a popularity poll to determine what you watch. Then you end up watching reality TV.

IMO, if you want lots of flashy CGI, watch this.

If, you want nuanced, intelligent SciFi, watch Counterpart.

Spartacus was awesome... although there might have been a bit too much "Cock in Ass!" in a few episodes
