Alternative to 41hz.com?

I wanted to built an amplifier, and 41Hz seems to be the site that comes up because they have kits to help a beginner move along, however it seems that the website has a lot of problems and is nearly completely broken. Searching on their forums reveals the same information.

Apparently, the person who runs the site is pretty sick, and its a one man show...which means that things don't get shipped out correctly.

I'd still prefer to go DIY (something like AMP-6) however, I'm wondering if there is an equally good alternative source. I'm more interested with something with a community behind it because then I can ask questions and follow up with other things.

You could also just start out with a ebay tripath board with a good mod thread behind it on diyaudio, before you build one from scratch.

You'll need to know your way around power supplies and good grounding methods, but I suggest an ljm L15D or L20D depending on your necessary output voltages. Connexelectronic is also a good vendor.

Both options have active discussion at diyaudio.

If you're looking for a class d amp kit with a pre-assembled board, partsexpress.com and classdaudio.com sell kits. There are a few kits on ebay that aren't complete garbage, I can't recall which vendor was selling the better kits, they were out of Asia and as far as I could tell the seller was honest, search diyaudio.com in the class D forum for the name fo the seller, it shouldn't be hard to find.

I also had a very good experience with chipamp.com. Their kits are perfect if you don't need a lot of power, and are extremely easy to assemble. It gets even easier if you buy a pre-fab PS, too; SMPSes for audio usage have come a LONG way.

If it matters at all, I'm running an AMP6 with an Elpac +12VDC 3.5A PSU and it works great for desktop use. I also have an LM3886 kit from chipamp.com that's been waiting for a PS for over a year now.

thanks guys, I ordered a kit from chipamp. it seems to have the best documentation and simplest steps. Going to have fun playing with it.

at the same time I'm following a more complex build at diyaudioprojects, where I think I'm getting a little bit more learning out of it... should be good =)
