So now that Ad-Aware SE Professional is officially discontinued by Lavasoft, what's a good alternative to the program to protect my computer from Adware and Spyware? I like the use of real-time monitoring and I'd like the program to have that as well. I could always use the newer Ad-Aware program but I'd like to know what is recommended here.

I also have KIS installed.

+1 Malwarebytes
Other thoughts : Malwarebytes Free version does not provide real time monitoring, it defore camps on my host machine Vista x64 which nests x86 (Vmware) where i do my web surfing within sandboxie...

Hmm, Malwarebytes seems to be really popular for the free side. I've heard of Spybot as well. How good are the both of these programs?

For the paying versions, would you guys recommend Ad-Aware?

Right now I'd recommend malwarebytes over anything really. I'm sure the full version is even better. It's helped me remove some difficult stuff from several people's machines. I don't think spybot or adaware are as affective as they used to be.. same with webroot spysweeper for that matter.

Either of the 2: Superantispyware (this is what I use currently) or Malwarebytes.

Free Malwarebytes only works as a scanner, but it's good to keep on hand. I like the 2 I listed above due to the passive, as well as active protection. They may not be the best, but they're alright.

With KIS installed, you should be covered for spyware/adware...

MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware free versions are good for the occasional check or scanning downloads. A-squared Anti-Malware also has a free on-demand only version but some complain of false positives but if you can live/deal with it, it is also great. http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/ It also includes Ikarus virus scanning. I would choose 2 of your liking to keep on hand, that's what I do and everything I download is scanned by my AV and 2 on-demand scanners before running.

Currently Ad-Aware can detect tracking cookies and block them, which KIS doesn't seem to do. Well it might, but Ad-Watch seems to block them more. That or it's just these false positives that you guys are talking about...What is false positive?

Also, any reason why you would recommend MalwareBytes or SuperAntiSpyware over the other?

A false positive is when a security product wrongly detects something legitimate. Say for example SuperAntiSpyware wrongly detects an important system file and you delete it, it could crash your system and would take you a long time to fix or re-install. So a false positive can potentially be as destructive as malware. That is why I usually quarantine a detection or investigate it before letting any security software delete anything.

I'm not sure if KIS detects tracking cookies or not. I briefly looked and didn't see anything that stated it did. Your browser might have options for cookies or have an add-on for cookies. A HOSTS file can also block tracking cookies.

Malwarebytes and Superantispyware have a one time fee for a lifetime license and are often mentioned by helpers in hijack this forums for cleaning up malware.
