Alternative to WMP11?

I posted another thread about having a reddish tint on some of my videos when playing in WMP10/11. I ran across something else strange with it tonight.

I played a clip and it seemed unusually dark. I then opend the video in VideoReDo (program used to edit videos, etc.) The video looked perfect in VRD. So if I leave VRD open and then replay it in WMP, it looks fine in WMP. As soon as I close VRD, WMP goes back to a very dark pic.

Not sure how to tkae screenshots in WMP to post them here but it's so dark it's unwatchable.

Get the CCCP:

Comes with all the codecs you'll ever need+ffdshow+2 media players.
My favorite being Media Player Classic (MPC). The other is Zoom Player but I never really found a use for it.

There is also VLC player (not in the CCCP) but I never really liked it as much as MPC. To each his own I guess since a lot of people like it.
I'd try MPC first though since I think it's easier to use/setup.

another vote for the Combined Community Codec Pack.

don't listen to anyone who reccomends k-lite codec pack; it's bloated, broken, and full of illegal warez.

and before anyone says "you don't need a codec pack, just get vlc", the CCCP isn't really a codec pack; it's a filter pack. the only things it contains are:

* Haali Media Splitter (opens .MKV files, the container set to replace .AVI)
* VSFilter (handles subtitles)
* ffdshow (decodes/encodes almost all video/audio types; customized build)
* WMV9VCM (microsoft's official codec)
* Gabest's MPV (MPEG2) Decoder (gabest is the MPC dev)
* Media Player Classic
* Zoom Player Standard

all of these are free, trusted, well-known, and highly documented programs, and all but three of them (zoom player, Haali, and WMV9VCM) are open source.

CCCP is pretty much the best video playback package there is.
