Yes. You ALWAYS use your blinker. I don't care if it's 3am, and you're the only one on the road. You use the blinker. It needs to become routine, so you don't have to think about it, or ever forget. You change direction, you use your blinker EVERY TIME.

It isn't routine - you look around and see who you need to signal your lane change to.

Changing lanes IS something you should be consciously thinking about when you're doing that in a car. I can't count how many times I've been on the highway & a blinker goes on followed by someone nearly running into me.

Using a blinker doesn't obviate the need to pay attention to what the hell you're doing. That's like saying driving without headlights is cool as long as you're paying attention to the road.

You need to signal your change to everybody, or nobody. It doesn't matter, you need to signal your change....

If you pay attention to what you're doing and what's going on around you, then you'll realize that there's absolutely no good reason to turn on a blinker at 3am when you're the only car for miles.

But, of course you can play "Mr. Perfect, I never go even 1 mile an hour over the speed limit and come to an absolute complete standstill at every stop sign" all you want.

No, I speed all the time when it's safe to. 90mph on the open freeway is different than 30 in a 25 in a residential street. I see fucktards all the time driving and not using their blinker "because they don't need to". If I ran the country my storm troopers would pull them out of the car, shoot the fuckers, then auction the car on site. I bet people would start using their blinkers then....

using your turn signals properly 100% of the time requires less effort than thinking about each individual situation.

If you do it every time, it becomes reflex and you don't even think about it. I can turn my blinker on with a flick of the pinky.

and lazy. Why not just use your blinkers all the time? Heck, it's such second nature to me that I've found myself using my blinkers when I've had to make an emergency change of lanes due to someone cutting me off.

Oh and like many people have mentioned here, using your blinker should be like a second nature relfex. Doesn't matter where you where, what time you are driving at, use it, no matter what.

Yes, you should think about changing lanes, not flicking the blinker. It should be habit, just like checking your mirrors and looking over your shoulder. If you're literally going down a mental checklist every single time you change lanes or turn a corner without you're a lousy driver.

You should be thinking about the cars around you, the process should be second nature.

Seriously, fuck anyone who doesn't use their blinker every single time they're on the road. I make it a point to not let anyone merge or change lanes if they don't use them, and lay on the horn for those who do manage to make it in front of me.

I don't care if you drive fast-- just use your damn signals when changing lanes every single fucking time.

Blinks are always used. You never know who is in your blind spot. I have worked several jobs that are driving intense. Saved my ass plenty of times. I also worked a radius of stamford, ct and nyc so I saw more wreckless driving in one day than most will in months.

Point is.. it will save your life one day.

On the highway I don't always use my blinkers. Often times there will be a car a few hundred yards back, and one a couple hundred feet ahead that I'm approaching fast (a lot of people in my area do 10 under on the interstate for some reason) but otherwise no cars in my immediate vicinity, so I'll just lumber over without bothering with my blinker. I'll pass, go a couple hundred feet past, then lumber over again with no blinker.

To clarify, I always check my mirrors, and I only do it when there is a considerable amount of distance to the nearest car, far enough that no other cars are really affected by the lane change. Is that really so bad? Lately my brother pointed it out to me "kill you to use a blinker eh?". If there is any need to, I do. But often, there isn't really any need so I don't bother (my blinker is really annoying).

Am I an asshole?

No, that's what I do. The blinkers are for people who would actually benefit from them. If there is no one even close to being near you to benefit, it's a waste of energy to use them.

Are you that damn lazy that you can't outstretch your left hand 2 inches from the steering wheel to use them? Pretty pathetic.

I love it, it annoys me that more mfgs dont have this system. It makes so much sense in a practical application

But when I signal, I flash it 3 times quickly manually - it means I'm changing and you can't do anything about it short of attempting to go from 80 - 100 faster than I can switch lanes.

When I signal and I'm ASKING for someone to let me change lanes (watching to see if they slow down, maintain, or speed up after I put on the flashers), then I just turn it on and keep it flashing like I'm making turn.

Use your fkn blinker, ya jerk.

LOL. For every one of me, there is one of you in the left lane that shouldn't be there.

Left lanes should become a privilege here in the US, just like in Germany
