No you are not a loser, the guy who wrote a 4+ page essay, distributed it to his friends and posted it on Anandtech last year is a loser.

Prom is the most important and meaningful night of your life, until you realize how utterly unimportant and meaningless it is. You will NOT regret not going to prom.

Edit: I'm not a loser, I did go to prom, I did have a date, she was very attractive, but it was 6 years ago and I can count the number of time's I've THOUGHT about prom night since then on zero hands.

i'm not going to go to mine, i don't understand the facination of it, you spend hundreds of dollars for one date? hell, i could go out with like 4 girls at once for what you spend on prom, and probably get it on with all of them, at once. i've found that anything the hs does is most likely worthless and/or stupid and overall a waste of time.

MournSanity, The Prom is a big thing to some people, and it's ok for them. For me the prom was just another school party, so I didn't go. My gf (now wife) had a prom a couple of years later that we missed, we sat on her front lawn and talked all night long. On the other hand, my daughter went to her prom and loved it.

But no matter what you decide, just don't be like those people who constantly live in the past and talk about their highschool years. There are so many more things in your life that you have to look forward to. Don't get hung up on some highschool sanctioned party.

I think this guy has it right. I went to both of my proms..junior and senior. Really its just another dance. Sure people go out afterwards and drink and screw eachother to no end but who cares. I had a ok time at both..its suppose to be something grand but really its just another dance where you dress up EXTRA. The only importance i can see in the prom is to bid farewell to highschool.

In anycase...Highschool is very lame. I did not enjoy most of it..and you think it means everything. Trust me..as soon as you graduate no one in highschool matters.

it was nothing special...at all.

you pay for tux, limo, flowers, dinner...oh god...it's stupid.

90% of the seniors break up after HS, you forget VERY fast that "magical" night... In reflection, it was a waste of time and money...(I'm 27 btw). yeah I got me some poon...yeah I almost became a daddy (mental note: don't use condom thats been sitting in the glove box)...no I didnt become a daddy...

just go to college and have a better time.

Use your own money from your job to buy your tux, pay for tickets, dinner and etc. Id had to pay for my own junior and senior prom, and all the pictures. and you are a loser if you need mommy and daddy to pay for your prom

Prom is a waste of time and money. Everyone gave me a hard time about not going either year, and afterwards each time I got the, "You are SO smart for not going, it was so stupid...." I actually turned girls down for that crap. Worked and made money both years, and just went to the after parties. No regrets at all, don't worry about it.

I havent gone to any of my proms and dont regret it one bit. My most recrent prom, which was a couple of weeks ago, i refused to go and went to a Sci-Fi convention instead. The money was much better spent meeting Jeffrey Combs than it would have been to spend on prom.

Sci-Fi Convention > Prom

go if you're at least somewhat popular, have a date, or live in an area where most people do not go on to college. If not save the money.

I didn't go to mine and have no regrets.

But I'm also asian and none of the asians that I know of at my school went.
