Don't sweat it Highschool sucks, and i was one of the more popular kids, played football basketball and baseball (Starting QB Varsity). How ever, It is one of those one time experiences, and i think you should if you can, if you can't no big deal. Oh, if your a virgin GO lol you will loose that title quickly, ever heard the expression "I'm off like prom dress". Take the most half way decent looking chick you can find thats not going, or go for a "sure thing". Looking back now that im more experienced, there were alot of girls that liked me that i didnt realize at the time, I'm sure it's the same deal for you.

And dont sit at home looking at Pr0n you'll just get depressed.

I say we pay pal this kid a few dollars, I'm in for 5 if some one sets it up. LOL, lets see if your Anandtech Uncles and Aunts are worth a sh1t, other than putting people down and acting like they know everything.

School and jobs are tuff in highschool, i had jobs but mostly summer, and they dont pay worth a crap. Not, Hotel, limo, and non alcoholic beverages good atleast.

Mine was last week, I went. I can seriously say it was the best high school experience. Never had so much fun in high school. Life is too short, live your life to the fullest. Sure.. you can stay home or go work. But... prom only happens once a year, usually open to juniors and seniors. You can work later. Go have fun with your friends. And, you should really consider paying it yourself. You can't rely on your mom to give you money for prom. Or anything. Learn to be independent. There has to be at least one girl in school that you really really like. Well.. Now it's the prefect time to ask her out. Even just as friends, you will make a good impression on her. Which is always a plus. My advise... go, have fun.

I didn't go because the only few girls that I would have gone with already had dates and I didn't want to go with any of the rest: the typical two faced, fake (half ugly) high school chicks.
Plus it all just seemed like it'd be 'fake', going through the motions, and boring.

Once I got to college, getting bootay all the time, having fun, actually caring about grades, I never thought twice about high school or the people I knew in high school (except best friends) or definately not prom. High school was a joke for me.

Man you have to live life and milk it for everything it's going to give you. I know some people like to just sit back and let life "happen", while others like to make some kind of effect. Some make ripples, some make waves, but the worst thing is people who don't make crap happen at all. You don't want to look back at your life and think...wth have I done during my life time, my teens, my 20's (God I love being 21 btw). You get the point.

BUT, at the same time you need to find a balance. You don't want to let events like this or women or friends or your job shape who you are.....if you don't go, then you don't go...big deal...but you never know...

Life's choices just get a hell of a lot tougher from here man...

I remember the feeling. I wanted to ask Jennifer out for prom: she is blond, tall, beautiful, and NICE (hard to find).
However, I dismiss her because I assumed she already got a date to the prom.
to make the story short, I ask her best friend out (Teressa) to the Prom instead.

By NOT going, you will just prove that you are a loser. Not to make this seem like a life or death choice, but it is. The decision you make will dramatically affect the outcome of your life. By not going, you are just showing everyone else that you are a loser for life. Studies have shown that losers almost overwhelmingly work in ratail or the fast food industry for the rest of their lives. Losers are always made fun of by others; it's like they're a big "L" on their foreheads that everyone can see. This is why losers rarely go out into public, as everyone, including teachers, doctors, and nuns, can immediately see that they are a loser and will completely ignore them and laugh amongst their friends. Loser in today's society are equivalent to India's caste system of old. But there is no question as why losers are in such a social category, because losers are losers and need to be ostracized from the rest of society. A loser who does not go their prom is a loser for life. I hope you are now very worried.

That is way too harse of a generalization.

Many super model never go to the prom either,
they were accuse by their peer as sluts & tramps,
most venture out into NY to avoid facing their judgmental peers.
Single Events like PROM hardly determine's one's future success.
There are countless Professional Doctors, Lawyers, and Judges who never went to the Prom.
Their horrible high-school experience solidify their determination to arise above their high school peers.

I'm not against Prom, I love them. But I do thing PROM is over-priced & way to materialistic in USA.
I've spend $500 in 1984, and most girls spend between $1500 - $2000. What is the current rate now?
Than again I live in West LA, so it may be pricer than most, and I got that IMAGE thing to keep up

I went. It wasn't all that great. It was just another dance (like winter semi-formal, and all other formal dances) where we all blew money. It wasn't all that it was hyped up to be but it wasn't "just another night" (i have memories). So *shrug* if you don't go you're not missing out on anything you would've gotten by forcing yourself to go.

Two reasons, you don't have a date, or you are just really nervous to go alone.
