Am I a snob if I flat-out refuse to eat 27% fat ground beef?

Actually, I won't give you a BS answer. If you desire a woman that can cook, and she can't - get out of it.

I'm speaking as a man that can't stand his wife's cooking. Thank god I like to cook.

Is there any other way to grill inside an apartment? Without risking the $500 fine for having a barbaque in it?

i used to grill in an apartment with a Foreman grill. never burgers though. how to they turn out? damn we have a Hamilton Beach thing in the closet that has never even been used. GET ON THAT, WOMAN! GEEZ!!

n/m this thread is pretty much about how they taste on the Foreman.

I was thinking that too. Now I'm not an expert chef, but, when I looked at the facts, there were two grams of fat for every one gram of protein. By weight, that's 2-1; by caloric density (9 kcal/g fat, 4 kcal/g protein) that's nearly four times as much fat as protein, by calories. I don't care how much you cook it, you are not draining an appreciable amount of that fat. The george foreman tray MAYBE had 1/8 a cup of liquid, hardly any.

She was PISSED. Since I typically cook and when I cook I always use 93/7 or at worst 90/10 (if it is being drained) and usually at least attempt to season stuff, I was annoyed that she put so little time into the rarity that she does cook. It is not like she is poor and it's not like she was extraordinary busy - I work probably at least 50% more hours than she does.

Was I being a cock or am I at least justified?

I would say that you're ignorant.

The concern about fat is way over rated.

When your girlfriend makes you food, you should smile and eat it. Maybe bring it up some later time.

I didn't even know they SOLD 73/27. The lowest I've ever bought was 80/20, but it's usually 90/10 or better.
You were being an ass, but somewhat justifiably so. It's not what you said, it's how you said it, most likely.

Maybe since she doesn't cook that often, she didn't realise how you liked her burgers? Try typing out a list for her on what you expect from a woman. And next time be a lil more appreciative of a woman who actually makes an effort to please you, smile and swallow it down.

Coming from Mr. 'Every Post of Mine is about Atkins', circa 2003, before you moved over to P&N to become Mr. 'I Hate Homosexuals and 90% of my Posts Are About Other People's Buttsex', I am not surprised.

I am kinda glad the whole fatkins trend died down and most people started using common sense when they make their food choices. I fail to see how ANYTHING that is 4:1 fatrotein calories can be good, whatsoever. Still, it boils down to the quality of meat - anything that is sold as the bottom-barrel output from a cow can't really taste that good, nonwithstanding of it's nutritional value, which in this case is probably nil.

I don't 'expect' her to cook. It would be nice if things were equally shared, though, I'm not 'expecting' dinner but not having to do it the vast majority of the time would be nice.

Come on you woman, the fat gives it flavor. I prefer Ground Chuck 80/20 or Ground Round 85/15, but all the same "Hamburger" is 73/27.

If you're against the fat, then don't make it a habit, but if she won't make you eat it that often, then just do it this time...

But yeah, I personally wouldn't refuse anything my girlfriend cooked.

Because your ignorant of science and nutrition.

Here's a good article from the highly regarded European Heart Journal for you to start with:

The low fat/low cholesterol diet is ineffective

Conclusions

The commonly-held belief that the best diet for the prevention of coronary heart disease is a low saturated fat, low cholesterol is not supported by the available evidence from clinical trials. In the primary prevention, such diets do not reduce the risk of myocardial infarction or coronary or all cause mortality. Cost-benefit analyses of the extensive primary prevention programmes, which are at present vigorously supported by Governments, Health Departments and health educationalists, are urgently required.

Similarly, diets focused exclusively on reduction of saturated fats and cholesterol are relatively ineffective for secondary prevention and should be abandoned. There may be other effective diets for secondary prevention of coronary heart disease but these are not yet sufficiently well defined or adequately tested. The circumstantial evidence of benefit from oils, particularly olive oil, vegetables, fruit and fish is strong.

There is practically NO solid evidence to support the recommendation to avoid saturated fat.

i would say, from the way you described your reaction that you came across as an ungrateful condescending asshole.

just IMO based on very limited information.

I may have added my non sense earlier, but now I've seen the light. Higher fat makes ANYTHING taste better.
