or does it seem like every asshole with a full size pickup truck thinks its the fucking Daytona 500.

this goes double if said truck happens to be a diesel or happens to be some sort of work truck.

it happens all of the time. If I am doing 10 over then they are riding my ass trying to do 20.

There is this landscaping truck with a trailer full of shit that passes me every day on my morning commute. the other day I decided to keep pace with him. He was going 90+ trailer and all. Rakes shovels buckets mowers and all sorts of shit just waiting to come flying off at mach speed!

seriously what the hell is it with people driving full size trucks? particularly diesel owners and construction workers?

If I do the speed limit and often within 5 miles over, it feels like everyone is doing the Daytona 500. I think most people speed out of habit. Seems women are worse about speeding and having a lead foot....yeah hurry to that next stop light why don't ya.

With trucks it usually seems that when it's really bad out and I'm driving carefully, a 4x4 truck is riding my ass and can't wait to get over. I get it that they can go full speed in snowy conditions but they need to remember people in small cars can't do that regardless.

oh also whenever I park my car (honda fit btw)...always, always a large truck or full size van parks right next to me to where I can't see backing out and no one ever slows down or stops when they see me trying to back up either, they should know damn well that I can't see them.

Sense of speed sitting up higher in a truck is different. Feels like you are going slower. I'm guilty of this on occasion, but I've seen plenty of sedans do it as well.

Except that they can't... which is probably why the first vehicles you'll see in a ditch when the white stuff starts falling is usually a 4x4.

I assume that work truck = they're getting to their next customer = they want to complete as many jobs in a day as they can = driving impatience. Those don't bother me as much as your typical non-work pick-up, often complete with political bumper stickers and a middle-aged asshole driving, speeding dangerously and changing lanes every few seconds.

Only if they get to go home when they're done.

Here in the Chicagoland areas, I find it's mostly the male minivan drivers who are the fucking assholes. I get it bro, you're driving the bitch-mobile, so you've got something to prove, but it's just embarrassing bro.

I've said for years that, grouped by vehicle, pickup owners are the second worst drivers, after Jeep Wrangler owners. Most Wrangler owners apparently belong to a religion which vehemently denies the existence of brake pedals and turn signals.

People with a 5.0 Mustang seem to fall into this category also, has been my experience also, even though they are pretty crappy.

Get out of my way...

I think a lot of people automatically close up on the car in front of them. The speed doesn't matter too much. They just have to close the gap. They drive up to whoever is in front of them.

I would change your statement to say:

Except that they can't... which is probably why the first vehicles you'll see in a ditch when the white stuff starts falling is usually a Rear Wheel Drive.

Four wheel drive is greater in snow etc than rear wheel drive or front wheel drive when driven properly.

Most of the 4X4s trucks you see in the ditch is because they are still in rear wheel drive mode and they are driving like they are stupid.

What sucks the worst is when it's pouring buckets (FL) and the trucks go shooting by, throwing up all the water in everyone's windshield so your totally blind for a few seconds.

Nah, its the ass hole drivers that drive like ass holes, truck or compact alike.

I know I just remember it when I'm passed by a blazing truck as it is far more terrifying than when a piss mobile zooms by. Its kind of intense when a big ass truck loaded with things that look like they will fall off cuts in front of you.

That being said 'work vehicle' syndrome is not all that unexpected. It is amazing how people treat things that do not belong to them, which is likely the case of a lot of these work trucks.

I mostly think reason is that there are a group of idiots that seem to have this bizarre hatred of truck and SUVs, so any driving transgression is immediately magnified by 10.

If a motorcycle, regular sedan, or sports car does something stupid they can generally write it off as a bad driver.

If a truck or SUV driver does something stupid their rage meter pegs out, and they spout all kinds if idiotic nonsense... OMG, all those guys are assholes, they should all lose their insurance, they are all in the ditch in bad weather, they aren't using the full functionality of their vehicle 24/7...blah blah blah with the constant bullshit, they just can't shut the fuck up about it.

Truth is shitty drivers are spread equally among all cars, if one brand or type happens to stick out the most in your mind, you are the problem.

Every time there's a snow storm, I always see some dude in a pickup fishtailing all over the road. They're light in the back. Which means even in 4x4 mode, the rear wheels are still getting less traction unless you put weights in the bed. Most people don't.

Most of the people who drive them around here are soccer moms and hockey dads. They're not the worst drivers. That title probably goes to people driving SUVs and lower end luxury vehicles.

Surprised this didn't say SUV or BMW drivers.

As someone else said, you see what you want to see.

Bonus points for a lame after market dual exhaust kit. One of which is almost always loose and flopping around like a flacid appendage.

They drive fast,.. because they live fast.

Here in NYC, it's the motorbikes and "suped" up low riders. It's not just folks with trucks.

Anything like a big car/truck in the city is usually driving really slow.

Another Chicago area driver here. Yesterday on the way to work on the Kennedy somebody in a small SUV was passing people by driving down the left shoulder at 50+ mph. I watched them go for over a mile or so that way and then lost track of them. No it didn't seem like a cop SUV either. That behavior is pretty normal for motorcycles in good weather, not cars/SUVs/trucks.

I don't know, but according to my informal count-the-full-size-cummins-powered-dually-sporting-redneck-cadillacs-doing-ninety index, the economy is doing pretty well.

Except that once you're sliding, it doesn't matter how many wheels have power. You're trying to slow down at that point and every car obviously has 4 wheel braking so your'e on a level playing field.
