End result of this thread and every other "people that drive X style/type of vehicle" will be that everyone on the road other than "me" drives like an asshole/doesn't know how to drive.

Another Chicago area driver here. Yesterday on the way to work on the Kennedy somebody in a small SUV was passing people by driving down the left shoulder at 50+ mph. I watched them go for over a mile or so that way and then lost track of them. No it didn't seem like a cop SUV either. That behavior is pretty normal for motorcycles in good weather, not cars/SUVs/trucks.

Ignorant idiots, gotta love em. I saw something similar this morning on the Kennedy too. It was a shitty little Maxima with a busted windshield. Dumbass was flying down the shoulder. Then, the greatest of all things happened.... a marked CPD squad coming down the on ramp saw him and nailed his ass.

If I wasn't in my work truck with manual windows, I would've rolled them down to point and laugh at that idiot.

Going 10 over the limit is not fast enough to justify sitting in the passing lane.

Of course, I'm not sure if OP was in the passing lane as he did not say, but if he wasn't I assume the other driver would have simply passed him rather than tailgate.

I believe the max law I've seen for passing is 15 over, so going 10 over in the passing lane IS acceptable and generally, the law is you are allowed to pass within the speed limit. Just because the majority of people think they are smarter than those who designed the roads and the speed limits, doesn't mean they are. In fact, it is quite regularly the opposite.

I drive the speed limit the vast majority of the time I drive. I will do 5-10 over on freeway driving, but that is only to keep with the general flow of traffic. I have zero sympathy for people getting upset and will be sure to let them know if they happen to glance over at me.

There's two types of speeders. There are the casual speeders and then there are the asshole/aggressive speeders. The casual speeder will go with the flow. They may move over one lane to go around a slower car. The aggressive speeders will do whatever it takes to go at the speed they want. Even if traffic is going 10-15 over but they want to do 20 they'll weave through traffic in the right lanes. If they get boxed in no gap is too small for them to squeeze through to get back to the faster left lanes. Many will cut right into the HOV lane even though they're alone.

I'm starting to see more and more of these types of drivers.

The one thing I'm convinced of, out of all of this, is that I'm seeing it more and more. Whether its my own perception or not (and being a rational thinking person, I honestly dont think it is), I'm seeing this problem being exacerbated. When I started driving, quite a long time ago at this point...people weren't such assholes.

Also, these threads always mention trucks, and they always mention BMW drivers. So, there's some type of causation/correlation going on here. I don't fully believe that shitty/dangerous drivers are spread equally among all types of vehicles.

I was driving home from work on US 19 here one day and a biker was actually going up the middle of traffic that was stopped, and rolled up on a County Sheriff that was right in front of me stopped.

I actually pointed at the guy, yep the light changed and his lights came on, I had to chuckle a bit.

I had a similar thing happen in Hawaii years ago, near where they used to film Magnum PI actually.

I knew was a residential area in my old car at the time was a beater old Dodge 68 slant six, (I actually had a lot of fun in that thing, was a beach tank)

Most Hawaiian Police at the time drove unmarked personal cars, was one in front of me, some guy came up my butt fast and passed both of us.

Needless to say the lights went off.

or does it seem like every asshole with a full size pickup truck thinks its the fucking Daytona 500.

this goes double if said truck happens to be a diesel or happens to be some sort of work truck.

it happens all of the time. If I am doing 10 over then they are riding my ass trying to do 20.

There is this landscaping truck with a trailer full of shit that passes me every day on my morning commute. the other day I decided to keep pace with him. He was going 90+ trailer and all. Rakes shovels buckets mowers and all sorts of shit just waiting to come flying off at mach speed!

seriously what the hell is it with people driving full size trucks? particularly diesel owners and construction workers?

Yield to faster traffic, not that hard. I don't drive a truck but if I'm driving 80 on the the freeway and see someone coming fast behind me, I change lanes as soon as possible. I don't understand why people think they need to police everyone on the road.

Here in southwest Michigan pickups are everywhere, so statistically speaking it would make sense to see bad drivers in pickups more often.

Working roadside today and traffic wouldn't slow down for construction area for nothing of course. We yelled and motion for someone in a truck to slow down as he was way beyond the speed limit and in closest lane towards us and had the nerve to turn around and come back to say something asking who flipped him off. Like what the heck was he gonna do about it against 6 large construction guys anyway lol.
Its funny how mad some people get at the response from others because of their own lack of common sense. Slow down or get in the other lane, construction on side of road is dangerous enough regardless of how bad ass driver you think you are.

Probably because everyone is not you and they don't care how fast someone else wants to go beyond the legal passing limit. Driving is a privilege, the least any driver could do is show some respect for the safety of others. Maybe slowing someone down a bit may save someone's life further down the road. Even outside of driving, police can't do it all, that's why they always appreciate help from citizens.

Well when I had a pickup truck, I didn't drive too fast I later found out the speedometer was ~10mph faster than my actual speed, slowing me down in the early years owning that vehicle. Then later the speedometer stopped working altogether, which definitely slowed down my driving! I only got 1 speeding ticket in 3 years of no speedometer, and that was due to a major speedtrap the cops were running on a country road in the middle of nowhere pulling anyone over with 4 cop cars patrolling the section of road (and of all my tickets over the years that one was for the least over the limit).

Of course, I'm not sure if OP was in the passing lane as he did not say, but if he wasn't I assume the other driver would have simply passed him rather than tailgate.

2 lane highway to be exact with a no more than two decent passing zones and several others that are downright dangerous unless you had a run on them going 80 passing someone doing about 40.

Another little fact is in Arizona most of our state highways are posted 65MPH so in my case going 10 over.. you do the math. Just aggravates me to no end that 75-ish on a two lane road isn't good enough and they've got to ride it right up my ass and we're both fucked if a coyote, a deer, or an illegal alien (sorry... I meant "undocumented" alien) happens to stumble out onto the highway.

It's a 2 lane road bud. Not a whole lot of room to get over.

Except that they can't... which is probably why the first vehicles you'll see in a ditch when the white stuff starts falling is usually a 4x4.

/this.

its mostly because most don't put extra weight on the rear axle so it's not making good contact with the ground. nearly 80% of the vehicles i see in ditches are trucks or SUV's.

I half a half ton and I actually drive much slower in it than I do in my other car.

same. when i had my truck i drove it slower then i do my daily driver.

And you create a safety problem by you thinking you can force them to stay behind you.

Since when did human error getting behind the controls of a heavy metal object not pose a potential safety issue from the beginning?

You can't put any vehicle in gear without immediately creating a safety problem because shit happens. Even someone walking can be a safety problem, a dog without a leash can be a safety problem..wtf? You don't do 1 specific thing to create a safety problem...it's created regardless, the difference is the degree of risk.
But of course you would be the master genius that will solve all driving problems though and think your ideas are the only right one.

A redneck father ask his son what he wants to be when he grows up and turns 25.

Son says I want to be out of high school by then

They are pot smokers. They hit you they are guaranteed to survive.

When I had my 1996 Saturn SC2 that I modified, these types would fuck with me. I am normally above the limit and yield to the right.

The problem was these fucktards would just tail me.

I sent one into a ditch one night unintentionally with some kids ran out of the drive in movie we were passing and he was playing a game of turning off his lights and then flying up on my.

I was in neutral and he tried to tell the cops that witnessed it, he didn't see my brake lights. The truck rolled several times.

The cops stopped me to and questioned me about it all.

Sense of speed sitting up higher in a truck is different. Feels like you are going slower. I'm guilty of this on occasion, but I've seen plenty of sedans do it as well.

I rented a Cruze and going 40 in that felt like 60 in my Tundra.
