HAHA great post. Well I think that's an awesome response... harsher re-direct sure! For everyone saying sue her or she can sue him... she has no claim since there was no written contract. Couldn't he simply deny all business wih her, claim its actually his site since he created it and has been hosting it on his server and therefore he can do whatever he wants with it. Also, him sueing her- same problem- weak case since no written contract and he waited so long to take action.

I think its just punishment until she pays-- just learn from this mistake... even with friends, always put things into writing.

I don't really care for the $500. Designing and hosting her site for 2 years cost me less than $30 as I already host 30+ people who pay regularly. I may redirect the page to a competitor's

Being in Turkey, maybe you should tell her you'll put it back up for $1000. Or $2000.

Before all that talk though, do you think she'll just pay you the $500 and then you can just put it back up? Would you be willing?

And no, I don't think you're an asshole for changing your website to redirect to a politician or whatever Robertson is supposed to be. It is your website.

Before all that though, was there any content that she put into the page? Prior to the redesign (can we call it that) did she have any access to the server's contents? Was there a blogging feature or anything that she could use to modify/add/delete any content at all?

I would keep it professional and just have a website down image, particularly if you want to resolve it and get your $500 out of this. I know it is more fun to do what you are doing, but $500 is $500 that you are owed and might be able to collect if you do it in a more professional way.

If this is her livelihood, she'll kick you the $500 (well any smart business owner would). If not, after a couple weeks just forward it to lemonparty.
