The NYC average was 60ish for the district, this zone school in particular was at 28 to 31 depending on grade level. The catholic school we've registered scored up to 72% Why would I make this up? I have children and a wife and shit to do, do you think I make up statistic to make my internet debates stronger? Man, that's pretty lame and you're pretty lame if that's something in your consciousness as a thing to do.. Do you have a wife? I bet she's not that interesting or attractive, right? Just a theory, could explain your free time and your assumption that I have the time to have fabricated debates.

I have shit to do and type shit like this during the few minutes between cleaning up toddler shit, on a phone, since this is not a job application and what I do to blow off steam (some people jerk off, I lack the privacy). The metric was pass rate, and the 1-3 rate was 28-30something (i'm not perfect so i don't remember exactly, but since you're a master genius who expects perfection you'll screengrab from when I knew another number) vs 70s for most years at her new school. Good enough for me, and "wait you said test scores mattered here but diversity mattered there" - again, unlike you perfect virginal creature who are very one track, I juggle numerous concerns and live in grays. Doesn't matter what YOU want, it matters what everyone else of every race wants.

There is a <Insert Race> Part of town in any major city. Here in Texas, we have a specific part of the city called "China town"... simply because a lot of people of Chinese descent inhabit the area and have various Chinese restaurants of all different types. The simple point being is that people of certain type want to be with people of their type.

That is a fact of life, and denial of such facts is simply pathetic and the equivalency of denying science.

Don't lecture this Asian American on Asian families. We live together fresh off the boat to form an unofficial economy and extended family. A village raised me, including many people whom I called auntie who weren't even related.immigrants lived together because we had to, we start in "concentrated ethnic town" when we get here but the dream is always to move to whatever better neighborhood we could afford to move to, and 2'nd generations most often move to nice mixed hoods afterwards. It's very common for Asians to start in Flushing, Queens here and then move to say Long Island as an example after they've made themselves. You're not the expert that you think you are.

I'm mocking stereotypes and being ironic, lighten up. I'm being as "racist" as Chris Rock is to his own people- which is not at all, he's just aware that poverty and group think underlines stereotypes. My larger message continues to be that I support diversity over one race defining the agenda and culture. Also, I love my indian roots, but they don't define me. My city defines me. My family defines some of my cousins. Their bank accounts define some others. I'm also being a dick on the internet, perhaps to burn off steam and perhaps because it's funny to rile people up. Why is this so hard to understand? Are only academic discussions and ones about television series allowed? daredevil's super boring this season.. Who's losing his temper? I don't understand, should I just accept your posts berating me and say "yes sir, can I have another?" I'm merely doing what any man would, and defending my point of view that I believe to be correct.

Every time that comes out of the mouth of someone that isn't white (nevermind the correlating statistics of whose mouth it does come out of) - as much a politically correct statement as they make it out to be - is simply trying to surround themselves with more people like themselves. I'm also not sure what it is that you find funny. Do you prefer it that certain-color people surround themselves with same-colors (making their community less diverse) or do you think it's better for the non-certain-color to move and surround themselves with certain-color, making that community more diverse?

If the latter is the case, that's exactly what the OP wants, which is why he said he's afraid to be thought of racist going to a more diverse/mixed school rather than the one that's more uniform (blacks, in this case).

Personally, if it's about my kid's education I won't give a single thought about diverse vs non-diverse. I don't care. I'll try to get him to the best school he can get to, academically (and realistically as well, regards to location, etc.). If that school turns out to be mostly caucasian or mostly asian or mostly african american, so be it.

I agree with you. I think what's wrong about how I approach this is that my red flag was that my visit showed that there were simply no other white kids. I feared for her safety, and I reacted from that first. But the other metrics are failing too. The problem is the NYC rating system is bullshit, instead of letter grades they get "Improving," "Highly improving," "Developing." The school received "Highly improving," which sounds great but I had to dig to find the true metrics. It shouldn't be this hard. My red flag should not have been demographics, but in the end I'm glad that flags were raised, they'll be going to a better place. 80%+ were free there for free lunch. I'm glad the kids are getting a meal, but I don't want my kids to be inspired by the kids who are there for free daycare and grub.

Honestly, my fear was elemental - there were 4 bars within walking distance of the public school, the block was shady, the kids were all black (and of the dropping the n word at 6 variety, this wasn't a black suburb with cultured people) and it was directionaly opposite of where I would have to go to work and far from the train - I thought they used to put thought into this! Lots of little factors added up, it wasn't one thing.

Listen, at this point I've lost track of what we're arguing about, and have lost your point because you're doing an awful job of presenting your argument. I'll just bow out of this discussion, thankful for those who empathisized with my concern. I looked into my options and, not only will both my kids get a great education, it may actually literally help pay the bills if follow through and hire my wife as an occasional sub. I don't really have anything else to complain about, her new schools near the best pizza in town too!
