Am I crazy to buy Nest Protect smoke/CO detector?

I bought 4 and they are pretty expensive.

I like all of the features such as monitoring, smart phone controlled, and the night light.

I haven't opened them yet because I'm debating whether or no to return them.

It's like the most popular smoke/CO detector combo on Amazon right now.

Not sure about your house, but at ours, the wife is cold one moment, then hot the next and over and over again, which means a trip to the thermostat to help her moods. We change the temperature in the house more than the TV channels. A Nest would not work at our house. We purchased a smart refrigerator a few months ago. It has Bluetooth and can be accessed via smart phone etc. Do I really need to be adjusting the temperature in my fridge or freezer via my smartphone from work in the middle of the day? Really!? Same with my thermostat. We have a $29 set back thermostat that changes the temperature in our house about 10 to 15 degrees after we leave for work and then returns the house to our comfort temperature when we get home. Do I really need to spend $250 on a Nest to do the same thing with a few more bells and whistles that I would probably never use? I like my $29 thermostat. It's also very easy to program!

He is asking about a smoke/co detector, not a thermostat.

If that Nest's smoke detector is only photoelectric, as one of their other models is or was, it could be a bad idea since Consumer Reports it did not react at all to low-smoke flames, whose detection requires an ionization detector.

The 2nd Generation is MUCH better than the 1st Gen...They worked a lot of the bugs out. I have some of both generations.
