Lots of people feel like this. I know I do.
A lot of games just don't have that "new" feel to them now. It's usually the same crap, with a fresh skin a lot of times.

I'll be 32 this year and my gaming interest has taken a serious plummet. I get excited about a game coming out only to learn that I've already played it. It just has a different name now.

I miss how intriguing and engrossing the games were. Escape from Monkey Island, Wing Commander, the original Command and Conquer, Diablo...then the FPS stuff: Doom, Hexen (which...was a doom rehash), then BattleZone. OMG I killed days, no weeks....or months playing BattleZone online non stop. Killed my GPA for a bit too. Stupid thing to do really. That perhaps was the most refreshing game I had ever played. Then they murdered it with a subpar sequel.

Then the MMO stuff hit me and then soon after that...pay as you play. That gets old. Fast.
But I still am paying on a couple. Have had EVE since beta. Lineage II. I didn't want to do the grind anymore so I stopped with the really grind intensive games. I'm too casual now to spend hours at a time leveling a toon. Marriage, longer work hours, bills and a home to take care of has diminished what time I did have to myself. New hobbies (nitro RC truggy) have taken that time as well.
It's for the better I think. It gets me out of the house and doing things.

I'm holding out for the game that rekindles the "fun" factor for me.

I've got boxes of games (many with original packaging) that I should go thru and put up on Ebay to see if I can get a few bucks for 'em. I got some goodies I know would fetch a few bucks.

Second, a lot of us who grew up with atari/c64/nes are finally getting 'old'.

I totally agree with this statement. Me and my cousins (im 20, they are 19, 17, 15) were in a rut in terms of gaming together online.

We played RA2 -> CCG -> CCGZH -> BF2 -> FEAR Combat -> CSS -> CNC3 -> !?
We bought TF2 but that didn't do it for us.

Then WoW free trials started, 3 of us started and were hooked for a year. I quit while the others stayed and I got a new computer (for which I could finally play all those games that came out end of 2007) beat Crysis but then couldn't really play any other game.

I have WIC, COD4, CoH that I haven't beaten and I just feel down on it after WoW. My cousins are trying to quit but feel like nothing else can salvage their time the same way

ATM I really am enjoying Burnout Paradise on my PC though

EDIT: PS3

You just grew up. Some people never really mature, but you did. Games are just a distraction from the rest of your life anyway, and now you find that the rest of your life is more interesting than the games you used to play. Since my daughter was born, I feel the same way.

Just my worthless $.02.

That is funny because I was thinking of Battlezone and how nobody has really tried that first person 3d RTS genre since. That game is still simply amazing. I will on occasion fire up BZ2.

I also played an online BZ2 game for about 12 hours. My teamate and I had a single silo but put up a hell of a defense before they finally got us.

I prefered battlezone I's pvp though. God that game was fun!

Honestly, I think most of these kinds of feelings are a result of playing too much for too long. I do feel exactly how many of you are describing sometimes and it is also partially for many of the same reasons you are all talking about. However, I have always discovered that if I feel this way all I need to do is put in less hours of gaming per week or even take a short break for a couple weeks and then all of the sudden games feel like they are fun again. This is usually followed up by playing a new game or replaying an old game which had good memories attached to it.

Personally Im getting sick of FPS except for a few hours a week on TF2. Ive been playing older titles like Splinter Cell and COH etc. something with a little more depth than just shoot em up. But I know what you mean, I think Im losing interest because Im growing older (26) and plus the games out now are just bleh except maybe GTA4. But in moderation its still a fun pastime. Usually I read reviews beforehand and play the top games which ends up only being a few titles a year.

There was a more recent (1998ish?) game called Uprising which was fairly similar. I was never a fan of either game though.

It seems that a lot of us feel the same way. I do enjoy games here and there when I play 'em these days but it's definitely not the same as it used to be. I think it has to do with simply getting older, having more responsibility, and expecting more from gaming. It's just not the way it used to be - come home from school with nothing to do, blow a few hours in a fantasy world playing video games. Now it's come home, relax after work, make some dinner, think about the bills, etc.. makes it harder to get immersed I think.

Try another MMORPG.

That is my suggestion too. I played WOW for 3.5 years and after my last guild implosion I moved on to AOC. AOC is an amazing game that blows away WOW on so many different levels.
