May 2nd Im gonna do my 1st build.

This is what I have:
CPU
case
O.S
HDD
SSD
heatsink CPU cooler
multiple fans
PSU
anti-virus
motherboard
ram
SATA 3 connectors : a few extra with extra length if needed
card reader ( feel free to laugh )
optical drive
GPU
compressed air
basic tool kit
extra fan extension connectors ( in case needed )

I will be heading to Rochester MN with a friend to watch the Mayweather vs Pacquaio fight. We will be doing the build that day down @ his place. I want to make sure I have everything I need to complete this build, because the closest computer supply store is about 90 mins. away.

Can you think of anything Im missing? Any connectors or parts I may need?

I do have all the peripheral needed.

Thanks again everyone

Thermal paste?

Cable ties?

Driver downloads from the motherboard manufacturer, stored on a USB stick? The Windows install disc may supply all you need, but I'd at least get the Ethernet driver as it is the most critical on a new build.

The driver CD/DVD will have all the drivers you need. If he has decent internet connection, no need to bring additional software. Same with AV, unless you are buying something. You will only need paste if using an aftermarket cooler. And you won't need an aftermarket cooler if you aren't overclocking. And if you aren't overclocking, and aftermarket cooler won't do much but add time to your build (the only exception is a high-end CPU like the 4790k, which will throttle a bit on the stock cooler, when running full speed).

A decent case should provide adequate ventilation for all but the hottest builds, so you may want to save time/space/money and use what comes with a good case.

Do not get a cheap card reader. Those a notorious for shorting power supplies (causes the computer not to boot at all, but not necessarily causing damage). Honestly, I think you would be better off with a USB model.

I would also recommend you go over to General Hardware and answer the questions in the sticky to make sure you are getting the best build for your budget.

Sounds like you have it pretty well covered. It wouldn't hurt to list the models of all the parts you have, in case there's something unusual.

These are cable ties. They're used to secure/route cables within your case. Not absolutely necessary, but nice to have a couple different sizes. Some cases come with a couple, typically the type that can be reused. The type below cannot. You can trim them with scissors, but a small pair of wire cutters works better.

I assume you're installing a 3rd party heatsink and fan. I use 91% rubbing alcohol to clean the CPU and heatsink surfaces. It's also good for cleaning off old thermal paste if you need to re-install the heatsink for some reason, or if you slop any thermal paste onto the motherboard.

Regarding the talk about drivers above... Once you have all the essential drivers loaded, be sure to visit all of the different component manufactures' support web sites (especially the motherboard maker) and download the newest versions of the drivers and management software. The ones that come on CD with a new motherboard or component are often badly out of date.

One other thing. If your case doesn't have a place for mounting a 2.5" SSD, you may need a 2.5" to 3.5" mounting bracket. Some retail boxed SSDs will come with one. Many people just use self-stick Velcro to stick the SSD to a flat surface within the case.
