Am I Pushing It?

Taking a look at my current setup below, plus factoring in an upgrade to an x1900xt and an added 500gb hd, would you say that I'm starting to push my 480w to it's limits? I'm looking into getting something a bit beefier, but I'm not sure what (at an affordable price) or if it's even necessary.

Not even close. Even with the x1900XT and all those HDs you're probably looking at 225-275 watts peak.

If you wish to spend more money fleshing out the rigs power needs, consider buying a UPS and I don't mean a dark brown step van

For around $100 a decent UPS can be had that will clean up line voltage, save you from
brown-outs and power outages. Just make sure it has AVR.

That thing's rating me at about a 660w recommendation at 100% peak considering an x1900xt, the 170 oc, and 6 sata hds. That's not what I'd call putting my mind at ease, hehe. Anyway, would you mind giving me a bit more detail on a possibly good ups? I have on in the back that's been sitting there for a couple of years without use... not very good FAR one I thik.

the 1900's are pigs. great cards but definitely power hungry.

what do you consider affordable?

660 watts is way off; there is now way you would break 350 watts.

As for the UPS APC has a pretty easy to use Selector on their site, give that a try.

anand is using a powerstream, which isn't particularly efficient.

that neopower 480 would probable draw 15+ watts less from the wall (i think anand's rig is drawing about 240 watts from the PS)

There are those who say the NeoHE power supplies have been "fixed" but then you continue hearing about the problems...............

Get something else, like a Fortron. I haven't ever heard widespread complaints about any Fortron product.

I have the first gen NP psu, not the HE series. I've haven't had a single problem with it thus far, so I don't plan on replacing unless it's necessary (hence the forum thread).
