Am I pushing my q6600 to hard?

I think my chip is running a little hot. I was hoping I could and easily OC my PC to 3.6GHz (if not more.) But the temps and Voltage seems a bit high with such a nice heatsink on my CPU. Is this a normal temperature or should I try reseating my heatsink?

After running Prime95 v25.x for 1 hour with 4 instances of small FFTs, it two of my cores maxed out at 61 degrees. The other two at 59 degrees. (I stoped at 1 hour because I didnt want to damage anything, seems hot to me.)

OC Specs:

3.6GHz, with 1.5v. RAM at 2.1v with 5-5-5-13 Timmings. at 1:1 Ratio.

FSB: 1600MHz.

400MHz x9

My loadout:

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme w/ AS5
Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F X2 on Heat sink.
7 Highspeed 120mm Yat Loon Case fans on fan controller.
Intel Q6600 2.4GHz G0 Stepping
ABIT IP35 Pro
4GB RAM (Corsair XMS2 4 x 1GB DDR2 800 CL 4-4-4-12)
eVGA Geforce 8800GTS 320mb (Will also OC)
Corsiar 620HX PSU

Is this too much voltage/ too hot?

What do you suggest?

Those temps are good. I'm getting 75 - 80C full load at no where near the voltage or overlock, B3 stepping though.

60c on a quad running 4xprime95 for an hour at 3.6 is fantastic, esp at 1.5v. I would try to knock the vcore down a little for long-term use but otherwise you're doing great.

I'm getting that kinda temp at 1.408-1.396 (after load vdroop) and it isn't Prime95 stable, just folding stable. So you be happy

My B3 is hitting 65C on water cooling at 3.1ghz 1.418V..so thats pretty darn good. I assume you are using core temp and not speedfan(which usually reads 15c low). On air cooling at 3.1ghz I was hitting 85c.

whoaa, ur vcore too high, does ur chip required 1.5? cuz i have same cpu/mobo as urs , running at 1.46 vcore, prime stable, 24/7 used.

I agree that I believe those are great temps under load - that's assuming what you're measuring them with is accurately reporting CPU temps (Core Temp 0.95.4 or Everest 4.10.1128 as examples.) If those temps are, in fact, being reported 15C too low, then, yeah, you got some heat issues. And running at 1.5v, I would think you WOULD have heat issues. Sure you need to overvolt like that to be stable at 3.6? And you know, if that's decent Corsair ram, you might be able to run them at 4-4-4-12. Aren't they spec'd for 2.1v? You might set your volts there at 2.1v, and set the sticks to their specified 4-4-4-12 - I mean, at 1:1 ratio, 400 is stock.

Thost temps good!? You must be out of your mind! 61c! Its near its thermal limits! P4's always produced more heat and way more when overclocked. My overclocked P4 640 @ 4.0GHz never goes over 50c at full load using a Gigabyte 3D Rocket Pro. And my ambient temps are around 25c. My case has not fans whatsoever.

Dude it's a not P4, it's a frigging q6600, core 2 qaud. Before you start yelling, make sure you know what you are talking about ...

But 61c is super awesome if it's running at 3.6ghz, @ 1.5v for aircooling. In fact, I strongly urge you, like other people, to make sure you are using the latest version of Core Temp or Everest, because it's very likely that the temps that are being reported are in fact 15c to low. If temps are being reported 15c to low, I would back of a little, try seeing how high stable you can go with 1.45vcore instead, for daily usage. No problem running benchmarks at 3.6ghz, 1.5vcore, but I wouldn't run it that high for 24/7 usage.

yeah, I thought I was being "cool" with 4 120mm and 1 200mm... um, techkid, do a little bit more reading before throwing out bad info. A quad at 3.6, even a g0, puts out a LOT of heat. Most people even on water won't get 60c running 4 instances of prime 95 at that speed.

Those are great temps op. However i woud try to push the voltage back a bit. Long term wise, those voltages can play a impact on cpu life.

Thanks for the replies!

I am using CoreTemp, I will double check I am using the latest version.

My OS is XP Pr 64-bit edition.

Sounds good.
