Hi, I am here to add to the thousand other threads like this one.

I have the q6600 G0 cooled by a Thermalright 120 extreme. and here are my temps along with a pic (in case I ran orthos wrong). I know I should stress for much longer, but I am just wondering where I fall with everyone else and I have a couple questions.

temps
cpu - 17 C
core #1 - 45.0 C
core #2 - 40.0 C
core #3 - 40.0 C
core #4 - 40.0 C

Will I have to change vcore to get 3.0 GHz? I'm at 1.275 now.
Why is one core hotter? AS5 uneven?

My brother runs his Q6600 @3.15Ghz with stock voltage, but it really comes down to how good of a chip you have. You can only find out by testing if it's stable or if you need to up the voltage.

Alright, I wanted to see if anyone was doing it at stock voltage. I'll try 3.0GHz later and see if I'm stable. Thanks.

Try 1.31 to 1.32V to get OC"d to 3.0 GHz. It CAN be about the same for either the B3 or G0 stepping, and you can tweak it lower to see if it will remain stable. The recommended retail-box "maximum voltage" is 1.35V -- so there's lots of wiggle-room.

Why are you running four instances of ORTHOS when you only need to run two of them? My recommendation -- find the download for v.25.4 or higher of PRIME95 and use it, instead.

I was wondering why your TCASE temperature is only at 17C while you were getting these above-40C (load?) values -- and your use of ORTHOS may explain why. Even so, I'm stunned at how low these temperatures are, if they are indeed "load" readings.

Scratch my speculation about the low TCASE value. Are you using CoreTemp? or Everest (if running VISTA)?

There will always be unevenness in the core values. Partly, due to fact that Core#0 loads up more or gets more usage; partly, for unevenness in the way the cores are installed under the heatspreader; and if using Everest -- core#0 will load up even more because the program reads and samples every sensor on your motherboard simultaneously.

I'm using everest. I dled prime95, and now my temps make more sense. I knew my TCASE was too good. Here are the temps after 30 mins.

CPU: 34 C
Core1: 47
Core2: 45
Core3: 46
Core4: 45

I'll up the voltage and try 3.0GHz. Thanks.

You using the default torture test (Blend) or are you running small FFT's?

Small FFT's are what you need to run (for >30min) before you'll really know your max CPU temps for a given OC setup.

Yeah, I was using the small FFT's. I want to get to 333x9 before I start doing the long tests.
