I've read every last post in this thread. It's made me a little sad. I hate to see people getting banned, especially long time members. And the emotions of quite a few people seem to be running high. The discussion has been only minimally constructive - much of it, in my humble opinion, has been the exact opposite.
Here's what I'm going to ask people to do: if you have a specific beef about any moderator, admin, or forum director, please take it to moderator discussions. As you can see from something mentioned earlier in the thread, we generally treat people fairly in there. However, it is somewhat expected that you're at least respectful while discussing your issue with the moderating staff. But, as has been pointed out in this thread before, we're not going to allow people to openly bash the current moderators publicly on this forum regardless of whether your complaint is legitimate or not. We have a sort of checks and balances; and we try to be fair. We've overturned vacations in the past for a number of people who politely discussed their issue with us. Please, take it to the moderator discussions forum if you have a specific problem.
As I stated at some point earlier in this thread, I agreed with the decision made of the permaban & two lengthy bans. If for no other reason, let it be an example - don't screw around in the moderator forums if there should be some sort of security error. Thank you. Is it really that hard to resist such a temptation? And, as said by the permabanned one, there's really nothing worth going in there to read; except conversations for which the context is completely forgotten by some of the readers.
That said, there's really no reason for this thread to continue - it's time for people to stop deciding they're going to be the next lemming to throw themselves from the cliff. I'm sure we'll make some sort of a forum announcement in the next day or so & keep people informed to a degree of what sort of consensus we reach in our discussion. So, go make some interesting threads! Hey, I made gallons upon gallons of apple cider during the past two days... total cost: free! 1 tree, picked half the apples, got 6 gallons of cider from it. I have hundreds of trees available (but alas, not hundreds of gallon containers. Drat.) Maybe I'll share some pictures later. But for now, go post about something a little more interesting.
I'll also mention this thread lock in the admin forum, and if they agree, they can over-rule my decision to lock it - no hard feelings on my part. I'm just tired of seeing people stepping over the line and getting themselves banned.
