Am I the only one bummed that HBO's "Luck" is cancelled?

I'm just giving you shit.

Also circumventing the stupid fucking all-caps controls. :awe:

Of course, its what you do!

Is Boardwalk Empire really boring? I was going to start watching that one. I tend to like period pieces now that I'm an old fart.

But I gotta have my Game of Thrones so I'm adding HBO this week anyway.

IMHO, BE destroys Game of Thrones. I really couldnt get into it, I will try it again though.

I like Boardwalk for the most part. There are some lame or inexplicable sub-plots, Buscemi is not remotely believeable as Nucky, but he's Buscemi so it sort of works and there are a couple very memorable characters.

Nearly all the shows on HBO are good, I'm sure Luck was even a decent show but I just couldn't get through the first eps and there are too many other good things on.

Nothing will be as bad as when they cancelled 'Rome' though, that show needed to go on. They need to bring something like that back

Yeah, I thought it was quite good, and the season finale was outstanding.

I don't think you saw the finale since it will air this Sunday. Last episode was episode 9 (of 10 total for the season).

I really tried to get into it but it was just too slow and frankly very boring. The premier was pretty good because Michael Mann directed it and it has his style. But, the other episodes were nothing special. I still watched every episode hoping it would get better. The last couple have improved, but there is much better TV to be watched.

I wish you were right, but you're wrong. Episode 9 was the finale.

Certainly reasonable minds can differ on Boardwalk Empire, and I have friends who like it, but I got bored and stopped watching after loving the first few episodes (I watched the whole first season, resenting the last several eps, and discontinued watching after episode 1 of season 2). Much as I love Steve Buscemi, I don't buy him in this role at all, and there is simply too much of him. In general the show just lacks a spark for me. Still, might as well check it out and see what you think, though I would strongly recommend any number of other series on DVD/blu ray (particularly Mad Men and Breaking Bad) over BE.

It's not a fast-moving show and it does take a few eps to start to understand "horse culture" (which is completely strange, btw).

Yeah, I thought it was quite good, and the season finale was outstanding. I would have liked to see it continue, but it was a bit of an acquired taste and I can see why HBO ditched it.

I LOVED it and would willingly have man/object sex with any discarded outtakes.

I never spoke of my love for it here, because I thought it was a show uniquely ill positioned to appeal to the main OT demographic -- no zombies, relatively slow moving, no royalty, little nudity, requires an attention span -- that sort of thing.

But I absolutely adored just about every character. Each was supremely and uniquely well drawn. I especially liked the dirt-bag foursome of track bums who hit the big one and then bought their own horse. Great, great characters!!!

This show was rich and deep in exquisitely drawn characterization -- a mini Deadwood in that regard.

Whatever else it was or wasn't, it sure as hell wasn't any tired, formulaic, played out clone or amalgam of any other TV show or genre.

I will mourn it's loss, and I do question the "political correctness" around its being cancelled. As I read it, they did their due diligence safety wise but just had a string of awful bad luck. Horse deaths, if you don't know, are something of an epidemic around the sport.

I felt that maybe HBO caved to this "pressure" way too easily as an excuse to axe a show with low ratings that they never properly promoted in the first place.

I would guess they were not all that troubled by being "forced" to cancel the show. Presumably given the cast, the payroll must be quite high by HBO's standards, and it obviously wasn't setting the world on fire in the ratings or they would, as I recently heard Adam Carolla joke, have kept it going even if three stuntmen, not three horses, had died.

PETA doesn't care about stuntmen. As long as those horsies live, the world is fine. Its good to know now that the show is cancelled, horses will stop dying.

The real irony is that horses die left and right in the racing industry. HBO should have agreed to make a documentary about this as a means of placating the people screaming for the show to be canceled.

I wonder how many people know that PETA kills animals. To them, its ok cause their logic is its the most humane thing for the animal.

In fairness I don't see this as logically or ethically inconsistent (unless they kill them through inhumane means, which I doubt).

You know what's worse than PETA? People who jump on every possible opportunity to bitch about them, that's what.

You either have very minimal free time allotted to television or you watch way too much of it.

or C) I only care to watch X amount of TV in a week (split with my wife's shows), and it's all spoken for.

...I probably still watch more TV than I should though. :\

Rome was a great show but the trouble is the most exciting part of that part of history is over. I'm sure they could do some interesting things with the early rule but the rise to power is probably the most interesting so it would feel like the show was declining most likely.

Not sure if serious, heh. Someone from PETA threw flour on KK, the one and only time I guess I am on their side.
