what?

So ive tested my 2500K now with two different IBT versions and two different voltages, with similar results. See for yourself:

I tested two different voltages (1.32, and 1.36) Both fully stable, yet both show very low temps. Is that because of the low voltage, or because of awesome cooler? Im leaning towards low volts but you tell me. Top is the test i just ran, bottom is a test i ran a little while ago, but same computer.

If you're doing 1.328V under full load at 5GHz then that's quite a golden chip you have there I'd say.

Mine does 4.5ghz at 1.36v, so you've got a pretty good chip there. In general, I think people get 4ghz easy, 4.5ghz often (but not always), and higher than that is luck of the draw.

You may want to check that overclock with Prime also. In my experience, I could pass 10 loops of IBT, but would fail in ten minutes on Prime95. Or, sometimes Prime would pass for hours, and IBT would get an error. So I'd need to tweek settings till both worked before I was comfortable that the OC was stable.

Yeah its not the norm it seems.

The temps, or volts? The temps dont seem normal to me, if what phil said is true then im either amazingly lucky (physics is seemingly being defied) or the temp monitoring is wrong. But for it to be wrong two times in a row..............

Thank you sir, i won the silicon lottery it would seem.

I don't see your temps.

but I can tell you my 2500k runs at 65 to 67 c on full load clocked to 4.2 Ghz with 1.24 volts my cooler is not as good as yours. the cooler master 212 evo is a 35 dollar air cooler .

your cooler

they look a lot a like but I think your 5 pipes vs my 4 pipes helps you out.

My temps are lower right corner, where the clock is.

The funny thing is, my stock voltage is 1.31v

Something isn't right, without even looking at your voltage or temps I can see your IBT results are way out. my 2500k returns over 100 gflops @4ghz and was seeing around 110-120gflops @4.5ghz.

You seem to be 25% slower than my chip @4ghz when your system is reporting 5ghz.

Thats because of MMX or AVX or whatever its called. I dont have it running, so my GFLOPS are less than anyone who has it running.

Looks pretty awesome, mine does about 4.9 with 1.36v and I have watercooling, and even on my watercooling it loads close to 70C. I don't know how your temperatures are so low. What is your ambient temperature?

Also might want to try some prime.

But yes it looks like you got a real good one.

Question is why are you staying at 5Ghz and trying to lower the voltage? You should RAISE the voltage and try to get stable at 5.2 Ghz or something

So will it run at that voltage with whatever it is turned back on? Also why do you have it turned off?

Nice OC

Wouldnt call it "fully stable" until 50 passes of linpack and 8 hours prime blend though

Well that makes a difference.

For the purposes of stress testing with IBT, you need to run it in the same way everyone else does if you want to be able to compare your OC to theirs when talking "IBT stable".

If you operate IBT in a less aggressive mode, non-AVX or with less ram tested, etc, then to be sure you can expect your rig to need less voltage to be quote/unquote IBT stable.

Honestly, i have no idea . i dont know what its used for, and i dont know how to install it:biggrin:

Its not somthing i use.

I beleive i run it with suffecient ram, but as many have said. AVX should be enabled for me to claim stability in IBT. I fully agree, but alas i dont know what AVX is or how to run it. And since ive never needed it before, i dont plan on putting it on now. If it aint broke and that whole bit.

What monitoring software do you use? Doubtful that it will make 20C difference, but worth a shot. Ive had it up to 5.4ghz before, that was 1.45v or so. Its currently at 3.7ghz 1.04v. I dont really overclock for everyday use, i just dont nee it.

very nice. I'd still check with Prime95 and Linx w/ AVX ( http://www.gigaflopd.com/downloads/linx/ ) before calling it stable.

Prime95 doesn't generate as much heat but it does test different pathways in the chip than Linx - I've had it fail quickly with my 2500k while Linx was fine for 6+ hours. Linx w/ AVX will heat your chip up 5-10C more than it is currently.

To have AVX, you just need to install Win7 SP1.

Ah, that i do not have. Nor will i get it, ive heard bad things about SP1 and my machine runs perfectly now without it. unless there is somthing that it does that SP0 doesnt (aside from AVX) then please tell me. Also what is AVX?

Now that I see this post, I should do a suicide run on my 2500k chip. Yesterday I ran 4.6ghz on 1.20v trying to make it unstable which I couldn't! I ran 20 passes of "high" IBT with AVX and it would not crash.

My 2700k will be here and I bet it won't o/c as good but I want HT for the GTX 680.
