AM2+ Board? Asus M3A

My brother and I are building someone a new system. One of the possibilities is an AM2 system. We would not get a Phenom CPU or any AM2+ CPU, just a regular AM2 4000 X2 Brisbane. For future proofing, would an AM2+ board be wise? The negatives are it's a new chipset and brand new boards... it may be wise just to get a regular battle tested AM2 board.

is what I'm looking at. Besides the "new" risk, does anyone see anything standing out that could pose a problem? Anyone have any experience with first gen AMD and/or Asus motherboards? Any input is appreciated!

I think the 790fx chipset has already been reviewed at a few places to be pretty good for starters but it's a lot more expensive than that one. That must be an extremely budget mobo especially considering it's coming from Asus at that price so I don't know.

The 770X is just a feature cut 790X

I would hedge my bets on the 770 being a good budget enthusiast/overclock chipset.

edit: even this jetway board does decently with the 5000 black ed.

The only reason you would need the 790FX model over the 790X is if you planned on CrossFiring down the road, as the FX boards have 2-PCIex16 slots and 2-PCIex8 (I think) slots.

I like the 790FX and 5000+ Black Edition combination, and then upgrading to a fixed Phenom or other Quad that AMD releases down the road... just depends on how far down the road you're willing to wait though, could be more than a year (2009) even if AMD gets first silicon on the new chips in January '08 like they're "Fairly confident" will happen (I hope they're right!).
