You layout a business case for overall expected interest, forecast readership volume, reasons why our target audience would be interested in the product, type of review, review test criteria, etc., then mix, shake, and if all else fails you try begging. If none of that works, you go buy the product if you think it will make for an interesting story.

P.S. The Asus board is in testing now.

Taxes here arent that bad, we pay 15% sales tax which is 8% to the government and in my province the PST is 7% which makes it 15% however in Alberta they dont need PST so.

I like the higher taxes here because except for quebec the roads are well kept, the health care system is useful and its nice knowing that if i lost my job and couldnt find another one the government would be able to help me out alittle bit(not much but enough for food) so that i can keep my life while finding another job.

Everyone has their opinion but i like the canadian system because i think its a perfect blend of capitalism and socialism.

The tax is acctually 14% now but yeah Alberta doesn't need to pay the PST cause they have their precious oil to feed the unemployed. (figuratively) yeah an i second free health care... well its not exactly free.

Not that I mind you guys talking about taxes and all but it really sucks that companies like ASUS and DFI have been so flipping slow bringing out there product that this forum has ended up being a gathering point just to see if today was the day that the product they are searching for has been released somewhere else. And the end result is a bunch of anxious people waiting for stuff that should have been released months ago end up talking about the taxes in Cananda.

I actually find it amusing and upsetting at the same time because I have been waiting for the ASUS Crossfire board to release for so long that I had to buy a temp board in the mean time.

yeah, its not free. you pay taxes like someone else would pay health insurance.

it should correctly be called mandatory health care.

Mandatory health care PAYMENT could be used yes, however most people dont mind paying the little bit that we all pay so that if someone less fortunate then myself can afford to get sick. I like the idea that my money that i give to the government goes to help sick people. Plus, those who have money can go to private clinics and skip the lines so thats good for rich people too.

You seem to be having a really long wait for your build. No ram, and still no GPU. Whats the hold up? Pick some nice corsair ram and 2 X1950s and your set.

STILL need to pick out some ram.

If you're using the MSI board then I would suggest going with OBCT's original suggestion (Crucial), at least as a start, since you know it works. If you want higher performance (lower latency, OCing, whatever...) then it is probably too early to be able to get much help as these modules are still coming out, plus they are expensive.

I've been waiting for the Asus board which finally popped up on their US website link. The recommended RAM with this board is painfully expensive. I'm hoping that they use it in their review so I can decide if it's really worth taking in the shorts for the RAM - assuming the board reviews reasonably well. I'm going to try to hold out for the DFI to come out before I make any final decisions though.

Are you guys going with the X1950XTX? I'm thinking about going with the X1900XTX to save a few bucks (right now I've got an X850Pro in a socket A system) but the noise and heat issues that I've seen reported with this card have me a bit concerned.

Go with HIS's IceQ3 X1900XT, or the X1950. My IceQ3 has an awesome cooler, I hardly ever notice the noise from it. No jet engine for me.

Mailman, when you get your board, post your OC attempts. I can't get past 285FSB for some reason. Might take another look at it this weekend.

i'm gonna have to wait so i can go down to NY to pick up the HDD and CPU from my holding address

then i need to build it

and even then, i'll be using one stick of 512 RAM until i get my actual ram

and then im gonna have to learn how to OC

so it might be a while

I've been viewing this thread nearly since it's inception and want to thank all of you for helping me keep my sanity while waiting for these boards to hit the market. I've been in process with this build since early May and while I really wanted the DFI board I finally lost all patience and went with the MSI K9A Platinum. This build was not without it's troubles, hopefully I can save someone else some grief.

A minor annoyance, you never really know until you try and in my case, the location of the PCI-E slots and the length of the X1900 cards render only 1 of the 5 bays of the Thermal Take Tsunami HDD cage usable. Luckily I had space to mount my other drive in an unused floppy bay.

This board is advertised to support 8GB of RAM. I have 2 sets of Dual Channel DIMMS (Total 4GB), but no matter what combination I fill the slots, the BIOS will never recognize more than 2.5GB Not sure if this is a BIOS issue or a memory issue, both sets of dimms by themselves are recognized as 2GB which leads me to believe it's BIOS. (Please do not respond with info about 32bit OS only supporting 2GB RAM as this was all done prior to an OS being installed and the BIOS should still recognize the full capacity) Any ideas?

The included Driver CD and MSI's website only provide RAID drivers for the Silicon Image RAID controller; this does nothing to resolve the fact that ATI drivers are needed for the RAID controller integrated in the SB600. MSI Tech Support provided me this gem to download what they called the "Correct" driver: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/d.../dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?uid-737&kind=1 I'm pretty sure that even if I could have downloaded it, an nVidia driver would be as useless as the SI driver. I laughed and told them not to worry as I found the correct driver on ECS motherboard website. Their response to me was "Please download and use the driver off our website not the ECS web site." Lucky for them ten minutes earlier I had given up arguing with people too stupid to realize they're stupid. For grins I went to MSI site today and they have a driver dated 9/15 listed as ATI RAID drivers, but it's still the SI driver. I can't believe this wasn't caught in any of the reviews for the motherboard, apparently no one really tested RAID.

So that's my rant. It took a few days, but it's running now slick as dog snot and my wife and kids are resigned to the fact that they won't be seeing much of me anymore.

I have some (semi) good news and some bad news, everyone...

The good news is that the ASUS M2R32-MVP motherboard will be released in retail within the next week.

The bad news is that ASUS may not be producing the M2R32-MVP Deluxe version of the board at all. Gary is still waiting to find out the final decision on that.

I will be VERY upset if I waited all this time for a non-existant product... and even more upset if ASUS ends up giving ATI chipsets the shaft by only producing one board using the chip... especially since the board is so late in production already. This is basically handing nVidia the motherboard market on a silver platter, after telling ATI that they'd be served at dinner for the last 4 hours (ok, months, but it didn't fit my analogy ;-). BS.

uh...it has been in the market for over a month now my friend. One of my buddies just built an AM2 rig recently using that motherboard. Same goes for the Sapphire advantage motherboard.

Uh... sorry. I was going off of what Gary Key told me, and since I hadn't seen the M2R32-MVP on NewEgg yet (my primary retailer) I assumed it wasn't out yet.

In any case, the comment about the Deluxe version of this board still stands as far as I know. I talked to someone at ASUS yesterday and he didn't have a clue about the board. He did offer to e-mail and engineer and post the response on this forum regarding the M2R32-MVP Deluxe, but who knows if he'll actually follow through...

Eh, we'll see.

Did anyone get the saphire board? I have heard bad things about their bios support so I would be interested in first hand reports on this new board.

I have liked my saphire video cards, although I had ati's cat drivers, I would like to hope saphire has got it together, but I have heard too many horror stories to want to take the leap myself
