Yeah I haven't had a problem with the Sapphire yet... what issues with the BIOS in specific have you heard about my friend?

I heard of problems on the 939 boards.. mem issues, oc troubles, slow bios updates and bad tech support.
How are you liking the am2 board? have you overclocked it much?

wtf do i do for ram guys?

cuz i was just on an ebay auction about to buy something and then read "NON-ECC - NOT FOR AMD BOARDS!!!" and noone on this site has mentioned ECC or compatability issues. everyone just says buy the ram and it makes no difference.

wtf do i do?

Yeah, I guess the U.S. doesn't have it yet, but everywhere else does. ...cause I haven't seen it either, but apparently someone else on the forum has one already.

I'm personally waiting until ASUS releases an enthusiast-class board based on the chipset. Looks like I might have to wait a while... <grr>

Go with the Crucial you were planning on. The MSI board only supports non-ECC memory.

the thread for the g.skill was non-ecc and apparently doesnt work with AMD...

g.skill is a lot cheaper and is in canada so id get it faster....

any opinions on that or pay the extra $100 for the ballistix?

ecc is for server boards, has nothing to do with working with amd. Gskill does make some intel only ram though, so I would get the model # and look it up on gskills site, its well laid out and informative.

Error-Correcting Code memory) A memory system that tests for and corrects errors automatically, very often without the operating system being aware of it, let alone the user. As data are written into memory, ECC circuitry generates checksums from the binary sequences in the bytes and stores them in an additional seven bits of memory for 32-bit data paths or eight bits for 64-bit paths. When data are retrieved from memory, the checksum is recomputed to determine if any of the data bits have been corrupted. Such systems can typically detect and automatically correct errors of one bit per word and can detect, but not correct, errors greater than one bit. See EOS memory, chipkill, checksum and parity checking

ECC Ram is also slower, since it has to take the time to do those checksums. Just stcik with non-ECC, unbuffered RAM. Crucial is awesome, and people have been saying good things about Corsair, though I've never used them.

Forking out an extra $100 for Ballistix is all up to taste. Will you be overclocking this build? If so, then I'd get the Ballistix. the DDR2-800 Ballistix can probably do 850 on 2.2V

If anyone is interested I saw that the Abit at9-32x will be released end of November...link.

I almost jumped on the Asus board at zzf but thought I'd better wait for the review first. At least it's hitting retail here finally.

Even mildly good boards dont have the right pricing lol

Edit: Could be worse, My dad told me today that at work they had to scrap 1000 units, when i asked how much they cost he asked before or after installion of the chips.
Before = 230$(thats just the PCB with no components)
After = 8500$(a functional board)

Thats just the COST of the boards, they sell them at 10 000$ a piece roughly

Yah, I know. Pretty good performance actually but if you use crossfire that's all you've got room for. I wish they would have reviewed the Advantage version too to give the full picture on Sapphire.

I'd like to see the Abit and DFI boards too. Another month or so... I've started collecting parts - I couldn't stand it anymore. I got my case (Gigabyte 3D Aurora) and put the power supply and all the drives in and have a X2 4600+ and X1900XTX on the way. Just the mobo, memory and X1900 crossfire card left. Shouldn't take more than a couple of months - LOL! I'll upgrade the CPU and Gfx cards next year. That should hold me to 2008. Possibly jump on the VISTA bandwagon late next year depending on how that develops but I'm in no rush for that.

Without starting a flamewar... I thought very seriously about going with a C2D crossfire system but I want a system that I will be able to upgrade for a few years (hopefully). I'm more confident that I can get this from AMD than Intel. With the introduction of new AMD processors, memory controllers and better DDR2 RAM (lower latency, faster rating) the performance difference between C2D and AMD dual core systems will shrink somewhat, although not disappear probably. That's good enough for me. If you're a gamer anything above 30-40 fps is generally a waste anyway. If I made a living off my computer I would have gone C2D.
