Just bought an msi 785GM only to find out it was "not ready" for x6. Now i have a ram and cpu lying around like corpse.

The Asus M4A77D was able to boot with the 1055t as unknown AMD CPU with a 10/29/2009 bios. Then the newest bios can be flashed.

When I bought the MSI 890GXM it already had bios 1.2 so my 1090T worked perfectly fine out of the box.

Will the MSI 785GM motherboard boot with a Phenom X6 and then you can update the bios? Or do you need a non-X6 processor?

The reason I ask is because I just bought an MSI 890GXM-G65 and a 1055T and apparently the motherboard came out before the X6 (I haven't finished assembly). They have the bios update on the website, but it does me no good if I can't boot my new machine.

i bought the msi 785gm-e65 mobo. I returned it because it needed a non x6 cpu to boot it and upgrade the bios to 2.5 version. i'd avoid it to save yourself the restocking fee.

Great! Too late. I've got the PC almost assembled. I guess I can try it, if it doesn't work, I'll go pick up a cheap AM3 x2 cpu at frys. then I'll update the bios and swap them out. I'm going to build an HTPC anyways so buying a cheap X2 won't matter.

Well I tried booting my MSI 890GXM-G65 with the 1055T but it didn't recognize it, so no boot. Actually, it did post, but wouldn't boot into Windows 7 via the CD. I was able to create on my other PC a Fat32 bootable USB stick and copied the new bios version zipped and unzipped on the USB stick. I rebooted with the USB stick plugged in, and went into the settings by pressing the delete key during boot, and reflashed the bios from there using M-Flash. There is a warning on the official MSI forum not to use M-Flash and to only use the MSI HQ USB BIOS Flash Tool instead because they say M-Flash kills motherboards http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=116721.0 . But the MSI HQ USB BIOS Flash Tool assumes you have a running and stable system before you can use it. Since the MSI HQ USB BIOS Flash Tool wouldn't work for me, I went ahead and used M-Flash. It flashed the bios and rebooted with the windows 7 cd in the drive, it recognized the 1055T and installed windows 7.

(I'm cheating because I talked to MSI support via email and they have just now started shipping this board with the version 1.6 bios. Good luck though.

Just fired it up and of course it's BIOS version 1.0 now I am attempting to flash it to the latest one.

Was able to successfully flash the BIOS to 1.6.

Just an update. It is a good thing I didn't really make that earlier bet. I just completed building my second MSI 890-GXM-G65 and X6 1055T CPU system and it recognized the processor and is now installing windows 7. This board has bios version 1.4 instead of 1.0 like the other board I bought. Amazing since I bought both motherboards and processors at the same time at Frys.
