Man, that makes my old P266 look REALLY slow, that thing has a better gfx card than my semi-old desktop....ahh, if I only had the money.

thats one nice a$$ laptop, i gotta convince my dad to get me one! What are AMD's plan for the notebook market? The Athlon 1500+ looks pretty sweet but it has that gay savage graphics, wheres via to save the day with a DDR mobile chip for the athlon?

dell has a better deal on its inspiron 8200. you can get p4, geforce 4 for about 1800 after rebate.

DO NOT BUY A DELL. I tried their 1.2 Tualatin 8100 and I shudder to think about my experience (I shipped the crap back). I'll go into it later but I've been singing the praises of Toshiba's 5000 series since before this even came out! BTW, the Japanese version of their P4 model has 256MB DDR

i can't configure one with similar specs for less than $2700, but the one in my basket does have a 64mb geforce 4

question: where is the ati option on the 8200 dell?

pick the cheapest options (1year warranty, ms works suite, p4 1.6 with superxga...), but add the geforce 4 64mb and dvd drive. it will come out to 1,957.00 - 150 rebate = 1807. probably have to add some more for tax and shipping.

However my personal choice would be this custom 8200:

anand had a preview of the geforce "4" go. 4 in quotes because its more GF2 than anything else.

heck, read it yourself

also, the only head to head mobile radeon 7500 vs gf4 go ended up with the radeon handing the geforce its ass. at both fps and power saving. now, the radeon had more ram and a faster processor, but the prices of the lappys were the same. which i find a valid way to achieve parity. ideally you'd have one manufacturer put either card in the notebook and then bench computers where the only difference the card. but then notebooks differ so much you might as well bench different ones as the exact same config from different makes could perform quite a bit differently.

oh, and nvidia's support of their laptop stuff isn't near so good as the support of their desktop stuff. ati is way ahead of them in that department.

sucks that the new dell only has the gf4. and its so much extra cash to get the gf4, since it starts out with a gf2 etc.

you could probably get the gf2 one and then get the radeon spare part for $170 and it could end up cheaper since you can sell the gf2 board for $80-90

sorry, i am probably just tired but when you say the radeon handed the geforce4 its ass, do you mean the radeon beat the g4 or the other way around in terms of performance and power consumption?

The GeForce 4 440 Go and the Radeon Mobility 7500 are toss-ups performance wise (The Radeon actually won a few more tests), but driver, compatability ect always favors nVidia. GeForce4 440 Go wins in my book no matter what!

Toshiba Satellite looks slick and good performance, but only drawback is 1.6 hrs battery life..

The GeForce4 440 Go, is based on the same chip the GeForce4 MX chip is based on, the NV17a. IE, its not realy a GeForce4, more like a GeForce2, which is why a Radeon can probably wipe the floor with it. Nvidia really needs to drop the misleading naming BS.

The Radeon does not wipe the floor with a high end Geforce 4. Take a look at these two reviews, one of a Tom's Hardware article comparing a Geforce 2 Go to a Radeon 7500, and another at techtv with a review of the new Dell I8200. While it's not a fair fight, the Radeon is confined to a Pentium 3 while the Geforce is given a Pentium 4-M plus DDR memory, it is kind of a moot point as these are the only configurations that are presently seen. But, if you're looking at a 8200 with a Geforce 4 versus an 8100 with a Radeon, it is clear that the Geforce based system is higher performing.

Using identical systems (P4 1.7M, 256Mb), GF4 Go is faster then Radeon 7500, but not by much.

3D Mark 2001

Radeon 7500 - 4751
GeForce 4 Go - 5000

Quake 3, 1600 1200 32bit

Radeon 7500 - 60
GeForce 4 Go - 65

GeForce 4 Go should score significally better w/ FSAA enabled, due to it's improved memory controller.

Both cards offer excellent power saving tech, and DVD decoding. Unfortunately, you don't have much choices. Dell, Acer, and Toshiba only offers GF4/GF2 with high end models, while Compaq and Micron offers Radeon 7500.
