Just wondered if anyone was able to get one of these on Thanksgiving Day @ 2:00 PST.

I got to the screen to answer the 4 plus 6 question. Submitted my request then got a sorry item is out of stock message. They were supposed to have a 1000 units. Anyone have any luck?

I thought I read that somebody on the XtremeSystems.org forum got one, but that's all I've heard on the matter. They sold out damn fast, I'm kind of skeptical that they had 1000 units, but oh well. To those who actually got one, congrats.

While waiting for thanksgiving desert last night, I mentioned my failed attempt at the XBOX360 in a conversation.
Turns out my nephews friend was one of the winners.

At least you got the questions. I got there just before it went on sale, and then when I reloaded the item wasn't even on the page, and I reloaded again and it was sold out. All in about a 2 minute span.

And we can all thank the assholes like the poster above for taking them all. Anyone who takes more then 1 needs to die in a fire.

Indeed, the chances of anyone even getting 1 were already slim to none anyway

These kind of sales seem like such a waste. What benefit is there for Amazon to get hammered for a few minuts, while pissing off most of the customers who can't even get the page to refresh (let alone actually getting one of the units)?

Why not email the results to everyone who voted with a time window to place an order (2 hours?). During the time window, everyone who oplaced an order would be entered in a lottery for the available units. That way everyone interested would have a shot, and Amazon would end up with more return hits of customers who could actually access the site.

people didnt think ahead. e-tailers are stupid. they underestimate the power of hot deals sites like SD, FW, and even ATHD

It's the same reason that's a big one why they have Black Friday at all - it's psychological and gets people hyped up for buying.

There's something to the competitive aspect, to the 'hoping they win the race' that gets their brain thinking about BBBUUUUYYYYYYY. That energy apparently carries over.

There are people who spend decades on the psychology of the consumer-sheep.

Remember, the letdown people feel at wanting that XBOX for hours or days will lead a lot of them not to like that sinking feeling of loss when they don't get it for $100 to buy it anyway.

It's under their skin at that point wanting the item and they'll think about it and it'll bug them in coming hours, days, weeks sometimes.

Guess what, you posting to the topic justs keeps it hovering near the top until locked....

lol.... i suppose thats how one becomes a platinum user..... thread-crapping and acting as the OT police.....

If everyone understands that concept then there wouldn't be so many people camping out during the BF in bad weather. The atmosphere of long line is fairly depressing especially considering that people doing this voluntarily just because they think they'll "potentially" get the items at special discount. The level of trade off for the work (planning, setting up the camp, getting friends/family members to toss-in their time) the more disappointed if they don't get their item. And in the end, if the advertiser should bring back the items "onsale" week later, the impulse to buy that items is even greater despite possibly much higher price.

This is a great way to increase the demand for an item in the category. In this case, the XBOX 360 is in a category by itself unlike say an 32"-37" lcd TV where people are willing to make substitutes.

Truer words have never been spoken! I knew those 'tards would not be able to handle the traffic.

No. They probably didnt expect people to have 10 tabs and windows open, or 5 computers trying to get the deal. That is where it went sour. The incompetence of people who thought having 10 tabs open and refreshing them at the same time would help.
