I had purchased from Amazon in the past, so when I registered for the Gold Box promotion a month ago, I thought I would automatically get the offers. No dice. About a week ago, I bought a bike from Amazon/ToyRUs, and now I get the Gold Box deals.
Something to think about. Amazon wants your money, right? So if you are already buying cameras and routers and cool stuff like that, what is the incentive for them to offer a camera at a discount to entice you to buy it? They would prefer that you buy other goods like kitchen utensils or power tools along with your new NVidia graphics card.
I bought a bike, their "program" thought that I was the active outdoor-sy type (HA!), and determined I would need a camera, as I would probably not have a nice one. The other items offered to me were Yamaha speakers, Blackhawk Down DVD, RIO MP3 player, and some electronic item that was already out of stock. The program compares what you buy, to what you might need because of what you bought. There is also some randomness.
Example: You buy a fancy stereo, you might need a new entertainment center to store it in, or perhaps a boxed set of Led Zepplin CDs, or maybe a big cozy chair to kick back in. The program isn't too smart, so it might offer a kitchen table, a "Best of the Village People" CD, or a fold-away bed.
Solution: Buy a garden hose as they might offer a portable DVD player.
