Despite it likely being an april fools joke, it's really quite smart. I don't know how many times I've noticed that I'm running out of something and forget to put it on a grocery list only to have to scrounge or otherwise.

Would be fairly trivial to make a small wifi based or even bluetooth transmitter that automatically purchased it or added it to a shopping list to be purchased later.

Even if ti was an April fools, this is half the point of IoT. Having things that order/re-order/let you know when things are running out.

The fridge that tells you what food you have isn't a new idea, this isn't a new idea. Even if it's not real and was an April fools, this is what things are supposed to be like in the near future with being able to order things easily.

Simple concept, great idea. I now want to order a handful for the products we use that we tend to forget (toilet paper, dog food, paper towels, soap, etc.)

This would probably be great for diapers as well ...

Yeah, I thought that part was pretty obvious. There's really no other way it could work.

Can't wait till my child presses the button 500 times in a row! Oh boy oh boy! Regardless if it only orders one, the concept is nice, but will have flaws such as the above.

You're also going to run into "Shit, I need fabric softener, not washing liquid!"

Yeah - I'll just tell Alexa (Amazon Echo) to put detergent or fabric softener on the shopping list if that's the case.

I'd honestly be surprised if it's an April Fool's joke. The technology is there (BT 4.0 LE, Zwave Plus, etc.) - a lot of smarthome window/door sensors have 6 or 12 month battery lives. And really, this addresses one of my barriers to using Prime - I have to remember to order stuff using it, which involves pulling out my phone, going into the app, finding it, blah blah blah. If I'm doing laundry & running low on detergent, it'd be awesome to simply push a button & have a refill show up 2 days later. Make it convenient & I will use it!
