It doesn't say anything about a warranty besides the 30-day return policy, so I'd be worried about that. From one of the customer comments out-of-warranty repair cost is $99.

done some googling shown that it carries 1 year warranty, the same as new kindle. I will ask them when I get mine, ordered it a few days back.

Amazon shipping seems to be really in trouble.

I actually prefer USPS shipping... for me it beats missing UPS trying to deliver to my apartment 3 times in a row during the middle of the day when I'm not here!

I wish we can convert our old books onto Kindle somehow, I already have so many books I've bought in the past.

My Daughter is ordering one because she likes mine and it is a great price.
Little problem, she called them and it does not include the case/sleeve that should be included.
There isn't any mention in their add that it isn't included, I wonder if it comes with a battery sic.

I doubt that info is correct.
Reviews seem to suggest that these come with everything (even a warranty card).
Refurbished means not new ... it doesn't mean that items are missing.

PS: I am about ready to kill USPS. 8 days ... still no kindle.
WORST SERVICE EVER!!!

The brand new ones don't come with a case as I understand it, so a refurb wouldn't either. If you want a case (which you definitely should get according to my buddy who bought his kindle 6 months ago) you should probably buy one of the hard cover cases available from the same site. I'm sure you're joking about the battery...This is amazon we're talking about. Its not like we're talking about buying a "refurbished" kindle off ebay or craigslist.
I ordered one last week and I'm eagerly awaiting its arrival this Friday. USPS FTL. I also ordered a nice M-Edge GO! Jacket for it at the same time...As I didn't expect a case to come with it...Here's to literacy!

I did some checking and it seems it comes with the stock sleeve.

CupCak, I have had my Kindle 1 over a year now and have to fight with my Wife over it. I have talked with people that own the other models and they liked mine.
The K1 only has 2 issues IMHO. 1... The page key on the right hand side is too easy to press (fixed by sliding a piece of a rubber band under the opening)
2... The K1 can slide out of the stock sleeve (fixed by Velcro glued on the lower right side)
Again IMHO... The K1 is just about perfect in every way if all you want to do is read a book.

FYI, the K1 also has a random MP3 player, can use SD cards and has free internet.
IMHO the newest KIndle is too heavy.

I am still on the fence about kindle vs Sony ereader. The features I am looking for are the ability to load other formats and to read multiple books at the same time (or at least have their book marks open/active at the same time): i.e., I can load some of the reference books on there, read a novel, then check some reference and came back and continued with the novel.

I'm wondering too with a bunch of sony's at most Targets around here for $195 on clearance vs the Kindle. Anyone with an informed opinion about the Sony's?

I have the Sony PRS-505 and love it.

The screen is great, it's not touch though.

The higher model has a touch screen and I thought it looked washed out.

There are a lot of apps out there for the Sony that allow you to basically convert any format to anything else.

It does support a decent amount of formats out of the box but the issue is some do not look as good as others. Like PDF's they don't resize right all the time so I find converting them to something else that is more of a native format to the Sony has better results.

The 505 is nice in that it has a SD and Sony Memory Stick slot so you can really hold a ton of books on it and have many different books going at once with different book marks for each.

One thing that sucks is if you accidentally take the memory card out though, even if the devices is powered off, it'll lose your book marks. There is also internal storage and if you were to load the books to there, that would be a non-issue.

I got my 2 Kindle 1 finally.
they are new as far as I can tell.

Came with all the original accessoires.
I tested one of them thoroughly and it handled approx. 6000 page turns (with wireless off most of the time) before the battery was depleted (the battery is replaceable which I like). The power on/off button is in a stupid place. The page turn buttons are fine for me but horrible for my mom.
The leather cover/case is crap.
The web browser is really bad.
Have not yet fund a really satisfactory solution for getting Gutenberg books on the kindle.

I was tempted too by the Sony but I would have to pay sales tax on it, the Kindle 1 is $46 cheaper and it also has wireless.
Beware though - shipping for warehouse deals sucks. Don't be surprised if it takes them a week before your item even ships! Get your act together Amazon!

So far, I like Calibre as a book conversion and library management tool.

The Kindle2 at $219 for a refurb seems to be a good deal as well. Anyone have a good comparison between the two.

Just got awarded with a Kindle2 and Bose QC15 at work. Used the kindle for an hour or so and think that I can get used to it. Bose headphones are probably going to get sold.
