Amazon Mini-Rant (TV Shipment)

I ordered a TV yesterday and scheduled delivery for today. I did think being able to do next day delivery was a surprise but figured I'd hit the button and see what happened in tracking. It ended up shipping from the distro center to the carrier at 7:30pm last night and that distro center is only 15 minutes from my house. No worries then, next day delivery should be easily doable if it's only 15 minutes away.

Anyway, the window I selected was 9am to noon for today, it's now 15 minutes past the window and of course nothing has been delivered. I call the carrier and they don't even have the item yet and they also said something along the lines of "Amazon does this all the time, you cannot trust their delivery windows. We call you to set up an appointment." Really? Then why in the world does Amazon even offer the delivery window option up when ordering the product?

Honestly I'd love to have the TV today but that's not the point here. You guys know the story, you spend hours at home waiting on something that's not delivered as promised (scheduled delivery, cable guy, etc.) and then find out you're going to have to do it again on another day. Oh and this carrier doesn't deliver on weekends.

Anyway, just venting here. I'm sure you fellas can relate.

Amazon refunded $108, apologized, etc. Still waiting for delivery timing confirmation but at least I know the next delivery window should be a good one.

It works out to some degree. Amazon is giving me some cash back on the order for my time. Can't really ask for anything more and to be honest I didn't really expect anything but an apology.

The bright side? I can now leave my house and do something more productive than tweak a TV for the rest of the afternoon.

Didn't have a problem when I ordered my TV through Amazon a year or so ago, but I didn't do next day shipping. Think it was 3-5 days or so, but it's been a while. The shipping company called me the morning of the delivery and gave me a time window and they were there as promised, helped unpack it and set it up and everything went smoothly.

Enjoy the new TV once it arrives.

I'm disappointed that you didn't even tell us what sort of fancy schmancy TV you ordered.

Wow, surprising to hear a shipping company blame someone else for a late shipment.

Of course in this case in sounds like Amazon has owned up to it. Although, from my experience, even if the problem was on the shippers end they would still take responsibility.

May I ask the name of the shipping company?

BTW, nice TV!

I usually have the opposite problem, I do the Prime free 2-day deliver and often receive my items overnight, sometimes even when I order after the cutoff

It always throws my day off, ya' know? "I wanted this video card 2 days from now, not today!" I find myself saying that all the time.

KeithP: Shipping company name is Pilot. They've been helpful over the phone. I think this really boils down to being some type of system issue on Amazon's end where they assume that since I'm only 15 minutes away from the distribution center, which is right next to the central shipping company, that I should have been able to schedule next day delivery. Not a huge deal now that the dust has settled but still frustrating to sit around for hours waiting for something that was never coming to begin with.

Yotta: I usually have the same 'issue' and don't even have Prime. Being so close to distribution centers is a blessing and a curse. I ordered a receiver a couple of weeks ago and the estimated delivery date was ~ a week out. I knew I was going out of town so no problem. We leave and then I get notification that the item is being delivered the day after I placed the order. Oops.

I ordered a tv from Amazon not long ago. It had me choose delivery options during checkout. Even though it was Prime Eligible I still had to choose a day. And next/2day was not one of the options. Shipping was still free however.

late delivery? yeah no one cares

Except that he probably had to take the morning off from work to be at home for the delivery.

I had to skip nearly 2 days of work to get my Time Warner cable installed because the installers kept missing the appointment. It's really annoying.

Easy solution for packages is to call the carrier while it's en route and have them hold it at the local distribution center

Sometimes takes an extra day for them to get it there but at least you can drive to your UPS/Fedex center when you want and know your package will be there

Never tweak a TV...just put it THX Picture mode and be on your merry way.

If I want something for next day, I order from Newegg. If I don't care for quick delivery, then it's Amazon.

TVs don't come via UPS/Fedex. They come via smaller shipping companies. Also, a bit part of the reason to buy a TV online is that it gets shipped to your house. You can price match Amazon at Best Buy, Fry's, etc.
