Just like last year (see this thread), Amazon will offer deals for 24 hrs to Prime members. Although not necessarily a big hit with customers (see http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/news/2016/06/30/amazon-prime-day-expectations/86548980/) there were some good deals to be had and Amazon made a ton of money, which, after all, is probably more important to them than how we liked the sale.

Info here.

"Prime Day 2016 is the Biggest Amazon Event Ever, with over 100,000 Deals Exclusively for Prime Members Worldwide on July 12.
Prime Day is a one-day only global shopping event exclusively for Prime members. On Tuesday, July 12, the second annual Prime Day will be the biggest global Amazon event ever. Members in the U.S. can shop starting at midnight PT, with new deals starting as often as every five minutes throughout the day."

There's supposed to be 5 days of pre-sale day sales just to get you ready.

Go forth and spend!

Pretty sure the one last year was shit. Either that or I'm thinking of their BF stuff.

Not only was the first one pitiful, but it was over-hyped to the point you KNEW it would be pitiful. Haven't heard much about this one, maybe that mixed with the fact they know the first one sucked is a good sign?

The first Prime day fell prey to overhype. With being such a let down last year that's a lot less likely to happen this time.

I still ended up with an instapot IP-DUO60 for $99 on prime day though so I was happy.

Maybe they'll come through with something decent this year, given the backfire of last year...

I remember seeing a bunch of specific niche items like random camping gear, gadgets or baby products that people wouldnt normally buy.

so it was basically a woot off.

Prime Day may not be great for all us deal hunters on the web, but for the majority of shoppers at Amazon, they will spend $$$.

I mean just look at Amazon's stock over the past few years. It can only grow that much b/c they do have people buying all sorts of stuff from them. These prime day deals and BF deals only add to their huge revenues.

Revenue is great and if you ignore profit margin, Amazon is doing fairly well.* Their stock valuation has no basis in reality though. > $300B market cap with a 300 P/E ratio?

I'm not sure there's even one other company with a $100B market cap and 100 P/E ratio. In general, U.S. equities are overpriced right now and the inevitable correction won't be pretty.

* It looks like B&M retailers continue to take a beating, and more bankruptcies are inevitable when a recession hits (I'm looking at you, Sears). Amazon is well positioned to benefit from all the ensuing carnage.

Costco supposedly makes mucho dinero from membership fees. Can't help but feel Amazon be trying the same.

...Meanwhile, my free shipping order is still in transit.

Last year I spent hours waiting on their lightning deal waiting lists for nothing. I didn't get a single item I wanted and had money in hand. I also let Amazon know what I thought about their disappointing Prime Day.

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

I know many people with Amazon Prime. I know no people who don't get more than their money's worth from it.

I don't really think Amazon is trying to adopt the Gym membership model (sell a cheap membership and make money because no one uses it).

Why are they again doing it on a work day?
Because, its just bait and switch. They don't want a bunch of off work Anandtech dicks trying to buy 10K units of something they only want to sell 1 of on Prime Day pricing. Its all about self-promotion, not actual sales.
