So, I've known that amazon prime sells 3rd party seller items, but always thought that they were housed at amazon warehouses and shipped by amazon. I bought an xbox one game last week on prime and it was supposed to come in yesterday. Looked in my account at the tracking number, and it was "awaiting delivery to USPS location." It hadn't even been shipped. Get on chat with amazon and they said that it was supposed to ship FROM the 3rd party seller. WTF? That isn't prime, that's a regular 3rd party seller. Why would I pay $100 to get this type of unreliable service?

Edit: ok, since I've gotten a bunch of push back and accusations of lying about this, I'll consolidate some info I've posted in responses. First off, I've been given 1 month free prime and the seller has been contacted and replied that they're looking into it

First off, here is proof of the prime purchase. Free 2 day shipping is about the only actual proof you get that an item is a prime eligible purchase

The "shipped" is incorrect bc that just means a shipping label has been created. It showed up as "waiting for delivery to USPS location" or some such. I ordered it on 3-16

So that seller is here. If you're on a pc you can click on "products" and see their prime items for sale

Finally, here is the verbiage of "fulfilled by amazon" that is clearly not true:

"Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) is a service we offer sellers that lets them store their products in Amazon's fulfillment centers, and we directly pack, ship, and provide customer service for these products."

I can't go back and see. "Fulfilled by Amazon" never shows up in your order details. I've never seen, a prime item that doesn't have "fulfilled by amazon"

You can pretend to order another one to see.

I've had this happen before - I think twice in more than 7 years - I don't see it often enough to worry about it.

"Amazon Prime" doesn't sell anything.

Also, post the link to item your purchased.

Yeah, but it wouldn't be for this seller. Th current page shows a seller and fulfilled by amazon. Fulfilled by Amazon is great, bc it's in their warehouse and goes through their workflow. If it gets lost or is defective, Amazon's great customer service people deal with it quickly and with the benefit of the doubt given to the customer. Using a 3rd party seller to actually fulfill it means that it is far less reliable (this guy hasn't even shipped it!), far less reliable on returns, and less quality customer service. I really don't think they should be considered "prime" items

If I do that, I can see that for the XBone version, it is sold by backdoorprice and fulfilled by Amazon. There are no new PS4 versions available, and right now I see one sold by GameOn! and fulfilled by Amazon. Depending on how you bought it and if it was from a third party seller, you may have not gotten fulfillment through Amazon.

Honestly, this just seems like user error to me.

It happens when you don't read the fine print in the item description. I once bought a $3 shoe polish, and ended up waiting a month to get one from India with a sell-by date that was two years old.

When an item has a bunch of sellers, very often Amazon will show the cheapest by default, and give you that one when you hit "add to cart" instead of the Prime-eligible / Fulfilled by Amazon one.

So always proceed carefully and read everything twice. You can always check out the "other sellers" link to see if anybody's closer or has their stock in an Amazon warehouse.

I usually see the delivery date as I'm checking out, and that's the final check to make sure stuff isn't coming from China (or it'll be here when I want it).

Guys, it was def prime, and I'm pretty sure it said fulfilled by.

The chat person said that even with prime sometimes it's a 3rd party seller shipping it themselves. I've never seen a prime that doesn't say "fulfilled by" which says stored and shipped by amazon.

I know nothing about Prime as I don't see the value, but if what they told you is true, then perhaps they have arranged something with certain sellers that are in excellent standing to have the Prime designation. If you don't receive it in the expectations set forth by "Amazon Prime," then report the seller so Amazon can lower their standing and remove that designation from their listings.

It was "guaranteed" to be delivered yesterday by 8pm, bc it was a prime item I ordered on friday. The 3rd party sellers printed out a USPS shipping label on Monday but never took it to a shipping facility.

Already have done so

The issue is Amazon lying about what ''fulfilled by amazon means"

I see. I won't sit here and defend Amazon, as I completely despise them, but so far we don't have any proof that it said that.

I did make a point it just went over your head. My point is that you don't understand Amazon Prime as well as you think you do. Educate yourself on how it works, which most people have pointed out in this thread for you.

Nope, you're being a pedantic a-hole and not adding anything to the discussion.

Need screenshots here otherwise you're the first person ever to get an item "fulfilled by amazon" that wasn't sitting in an Amazon warehouse.

Even if we take the OP's claim being true, this would have to be a system glitch or an extremely isolated incident. Not sure it would fall into the "false advertising" area.

I've had 120+ orders using Prime in the last year alone, some sold and fulfilled by Amazon, and some sold by company X and fulfilled by Amazon. I never experienced the issue you are here about.

Also it's not like Amazon's customer service sucks, they are very good about any mishaps in my experience. But judging by OP's tendency to quickly escalate, I guess I can understand the jump to "false advertising."

My guess is it's PEBCAK.

I've seen listings on Amazon that will show up when you filter by Prime and have "Prime" in the listing. Then you click on the item and there are variations of the item and the one you actually want won't be Prime. And if you aren't paying attention you may assume it is Prime so you click add to cart.

That's my best guess at this point. Pics and more info would help though.

This is why you take screenshots showing things like Prime, Fulfilled By Amazon, Estimated (or especially Guaranteed) Delivery Date, etc.

I suspect it is possible you saw it in a search hit list as Prime eligible because some offerings were but not that particular seller. Either way, if you don't want to receive the item because it's going to take forever to arrive then you need the proof of the delivery guarantee date.

If it's just an estimate that means little. Seller can claim anything and just sit on the order for various reasons. If you have the guarantee date, IIRC if it does not arrive by then they used to give you a free month of Prime for each instance or do they no longer do this? Then again I'd want that for a few days late, not to wait an extra week(s) for something.

I won't buy anything on Amazon fulfilled by a 3rd party unless I recognize the 3rd party, someone who also sells from their website storefront but did some amazon promo to make it cheaper there, though this happens more on ebay than amazon.

Probably PEBCAK.

Most likely: There were both Prime and non-Prime sellers for the item, and preslove chose one of the non-Prime sellers who was not fulfilled by Amazon instead of one who was.
