i don't recall this happening with Amazon but i notice lots of companies are shipping UPS to USPS. I don't get it.

I don't really care as long as I get it on time though.

I had an order that I was expecting to arrive today via UPS. Never came. Checked tracking and they dropped it off at the post office at 11:31 AM. This was after our mail carrier leaves to deliver mail so now I won't get it until tomorrow. Worst part is that UPS dropped off another order to my house later in the day...why not keep it on the fucking truck and deliver both????

Only next day includes Saturday and they ship via FedEx Saturday Delivery in that case.

That's exactly the shipping they used for my latest item that I ordered Thanksgiving evening.... it showed up Tuesday night! Got a refund on the $4 though, so all is well.

Were your 2 orders < $25?

The total amount of the orders doesn't matter with Prime. I could place a qualifying order that cost $.99, and it would ship 2 days for free.

It's either Super Saver Shipping or Prime.

Amazon always chooses the most economical (for them) shipping method that will arrive on time. If it doesn't arrive on time, call them and ask for a concession.

I've had a single Prime order shipped via USPS (shipped from 200 miles away) in the last two years.

The problem is that you have absolutely no control beyond that. I have major issues with FedEx not delivering in my area, but Amazon will not change their system to not use FedEx for my orders.

You're welcome to shop elsewhere if Amazon doesn't do what you need them to do.

I wonder if these shipping options are cheaper for Amazon and that they're using them to make up for the fact that Prime isn't making money. I haven't done any research to see if Prime is a lucrative aspect of the company, but I'd assume that switching to other shipping companies might be a reason for that.

Maybe if people would stop sharing Prime accounts with people not in their household (which you're not supposed to do), it wouldn't be so bad for Amazon .

I've gotten a few smaller things like DVDs USPS but it usually comes the next day in that case. If you have prime and order something that is supposed to arrive 2-day and doesn't come the day it is supposed to, call them! If they messed up they will at least give you some promotional credit.
I ordered 4 things for Next Day Air on Thanksgiving morning (Nov 25th).
Three things shipped on the 26th. One shipped on the 27th.
Two of the three things shipped on the 26th arrived on the 27th(Saturday). The thing that shipped on the 27th arrived on the 29th (Monday).

One of the items that shipped on the 26th sat at the UPS warehouse in Harrisburg, PA for days...I called UPS Monday night and the rep said she's not exactly sure what happened or why it sat there for days, but mentioned she sees my order as scheduled to be delivered Tuesday morning at 10:30am. Order was finally delivered on Nov 30th(Tuesday) at 11:40am.

The only thing Amazon did was refunded my $3.99 shipping cost for next day air.

My experience also differs from others in this thread.
The item delivered on-time for Saturday was by FedEx.
The item delivered late was by UPS.

That was also the 1st time my order has ever come late. I've only been using Prime since May but I've made more than a couple of orders (probably ~8-10 or so)

I get my packages via USPS once in a while, but they're rarely ever late. In fact, I can only recall 1 item that's been late when shipped via USPS.

That is my gripe. Mine was shipped 38 miles away from the destination with FedEx. Because of the exchange to USPS, it took a 5 days. Worst part is, the post office is a 1/2 mile from where it was supposed to be shipped. It literally sat in the post office for 2 days.

USPS blows if you want to know when your package will actually arrive. They make no guarantees on the transit time for deliveries, except for their Express Mail. You can ship a package with Priority Mail, which they advertise as 2-3 day service, and they can take several weeks to deliver with no recourse.

With UPS/Fedex, they tell you when the package will arrive and it does get delivered on that day 99+% of the time.

I get stuff via prime from ups and usps. It all gets here in time or well I've lost track with the multitude of orders I've placed lately.

Update - Another day gone, package still not here. I called Amazon last night and the rep agreed the package should not go USPS if they are expecting it to get anywhere on time, and graciously offered to overnight me one at their expense. She guaranteed it would be there by friday at the latest and confirmed it was in stock. Except one problem - she didn't do it. So i call again tonight, explain the situation, he sees the notes on the account and re-order's one while on the phone, he says it will be there tomorrow and i get the confirmation email so i hang up.

As I look closer, I see this;

Shipment 1 of 1: The following item will arrive after December 25, 2010.
Not yet shipped
Delivery Estimate: December 17, 2010 - December 31, 2010

Wow, thanks Amazon. REALLY making me want to keep paying you $80/yr for this.

I've never seen orders shipped via one or two day have a range of days for delivery. It's ALWAYS been the exact day in the order details. Does your order info display the shipping speed too?

It doesn't but i'm assuming the item is on backorder now. Which it wasn't last night when the rep said she would place the overnight order.

Sounds like bad luck on this order. Surely, all of orders can't end up like this one.

Oddly enough... I ordered something today with normal Prime two-day shipping and the UPS tracking lists it as Next Day. I'm not complaining, but given its location, it should reach me in a day via Ground anyway .
